I just bought tickets to see "The Fantasticks" (for my mother's birthday) at the Snapple Theater. I saw this show when I was a little kid but I don't remember anything about it. Can anyone please let me know if I made a good purchase?

P.S. I got seats in the first row, center aisle...are those too close or is that a nice place to sit?

I sat in the same seats when I went, and I thought the view was great. The stage is floor level, so you don't have to stare up or anything. The show was great, I thought. It's so simple and so beautiful. A lot of great harmonies, and beautiful music accompanied by a great cast and great lighting. I think it's a great show.

You made a great purchase. The show is so simple yet so amazing at the same time. The music is so beautiful as is the story. I can't say anything bad about this show. It is just so good.

Ditto and Ditto. It's delightful, quirky and certainly family friendly. There's not a bad seat there, it's small. When we went, we got to give our BC/EFA donation directly to Tom Jones himself!

for the Fantaasticks it doesn't matter where you sit. It's worth seeing if it's your kind of show. Most people wither love it or absoloutely can't stand it.

I don't think so, but its always on TKTS. It's price there is usually around 35-40 dollars.

Yes, they have student rush, they charge 36.50 for those and sometimes they sell them in advance. The show is fantastic! and really, there are no bad seats at the Snapple Center.
A magical show, you made an excellent purchase, also the current cast is brilliant.

Agree that The Fantasticks is a wonderful show and one that all theatre lovers should see. Plus, if your mom is a fan of The Amazing Race, she'll be excited to see Nick Spangler who is in the cast. :)

Who replaced Robert Oliver? He was one of a kind, amazing to watch. So sad to lose him and so suddenly.

Fun fact: The Off-Broadway Fantasticks is on Broadway. Discuss.

yeah but a lot of off-Broadway theaters are technically on Broadway as much as any other theater. Like 2nd Stages is essentially closer to "Broadway" than the Hisherfeld, yet it's not considered "Broadway" because of the number of seats.

A lot of people think they might not like it, but wait until the second act to form an opinion. It really brings up the whole point of the show, which is just so lovely.

And don't forget that Nick Spangler (of TV's "The Amazing Race") is starring as Matt in this production.

Has anyone seen this production recently? I'm planning a trip up to NYC right after New Years and would really like to see this if it's worth the money. My senior year of high school we performed this and I absolutely fell in love with everything about it and especially my role of Huck.

Anyways, I know that throughout the years there have been many different takes on the show and was wondering if anyone could describe the feel of it now? Is it still performed on a small stage? How are the actors etc?

Either way I'd love to see it performed by professionals. The script is so beautifully poetic and I was amazed at how well it plays back and forth between humor and drama.

This production is so wonderful! I can easily say that The Fantasticks is my favorite musical, and I'm so glad they brought it back to New York! I saw the original production (not the original cast) when it was at the Sullivan Street Theater, and this is almost exactly like that production. I was very relieved by this when I saw it at the Snapple Theater. I urge everyone to see this show, as it really does appeal to everyone - even my boyfriend who doesn't care for musicals! I hope this production runs as long, if not longer than the original!

I saw it when it reopened in July after closing. Cast didn't do it for me, though Spangler was very good. Everyone else was underhwelming - Denis Parlato didn't have the voice for El Gallo; the old actor wasn't as funny as Tom Jones, etc.

And Robert Oliver is sorely missed.

May he rest in peace, along with Leo Burmeister, who also opened "this revival" and passed on midway through the run.
