Posted: 1/27/08 at 4:04pmWickedBoy, I'm not trying to start trouble but your responses tell me you're not getting it. There is a big difference between people vandalizing the outside of the theatre, and the people who are following a tradition that's taking place INSIDE the building.

wickedboy
hon, we all realise that the stuff on the front of the theatre is gross and uncalled for.
But the RENT wall is there to be written on
we did the same thing when the theatre company I used to work for opened. I started doing shows there when I was 11, and when I go back now, my signature is still there, but its backstage

from what I've heard, most broadway shows have walls in some back hallway that when celebrities visit, they sign walls.
here's one off the top of my head

Another picture of the actual RENT wall.
As you can see...It's not for the average fangirl to write "ADAM AND ANTHONY own my life," so they decided to graffiti the front.

Because it's a wall of a historic theater. Not some random apartment building.
The Nederlander needs a touch-up anyways.
#59re: The Graffiti on the Nederlander Theater
Posted: 1/27/08 at 6:47pmIts a paint job which it will need and i suspect will get one once the show has closed regardless if the graffiti was there or not

Posted: 1/27/08 at 6:54pmMy apartment needs cleaning and I don't just throw random garbage around because of that.

Posted: 1/27/08 at 7:24pmI seem to recal seeing one at the New Amsterdamn in a Mary Poppins video feature. (Broadway.com perhaps)

Posted: 1/27/08 at 7:38pmThe worst part is that people went and tried to clean the walls this summer, but then they were banned from lotto. It just disgusts me.

#67re: The Graffiti on the Nederlander Theater
Posted: 1/27/08 at 8:38pmWhy? The pictures in the original post are of the graffiti on the theater, not the Rent wall.

Posted: 1/27/08 at 8:43pmWhy? The discussion shifted a bit. Big deal.

"So what if people are passionate enough to mark their feelings on a wall, New York is covered in graffiti lol"
So if I passed your house and thought it was nice should I write on it to mark my feelings about it?

Posted: 1/27/08 at 9:40pmLast year there was some Graffiti on the wall next to the door with Gilles Chiasson's picture on it. It had an arrow pointing to his head with the word "Cheater!" next to it. I thought that was kinda funny, and wonder what the story is behind it!

Well it's illegal to alter a building. It's technically vandalism. Also, it goes against the union. If any work is done to a theatre, it has to go through the union. If fans did something paid workers could do they are keeping money from them.
As I said earlier, it's been rumored that they messed up the paint. Additionally, some of the producers apparently liked the graffiti and think it adds charm or some bull...

Its a bit different writing on my apartment than on the the theatre wall which a show is in that changed people's lives
Im pretty sure my apartment hasn't done that (it does have a lovely view though lol)

But then how are people able to get away with writing stuff on the building right in front of people who work there? It's not like there are no witnesses, they do this right in front of massive crowds and Nederlander staff. Someone among the powers the be must think it's like, free advertising or something. All that psychotic crap written up there just serves as a testament to how great the show is and how much people love it, or something.
