My sister lives on the street where all the action is happening. IDK how or what they filmed in the downpour.
They took the corner daycare and made a facade for Daniela’s Salon.
And the corner bodega and taxi dispatch is being used as well. I used to get cars from there to take my mom to her Dr’s appointments during the last 3 years of her life. Glad that scenes from the actual neighborhood is being used for the movie.

Just saw the photo. It’s really cool that they apparently got Adam Sandler to cameo as the Piragua guy...
(Although it did make me think that ten years ago we probably would have had Rob Schneider as the Piragua guy for real.)

Daphne’s Daniela just took this to another level. I’m an ass for questioning her casting.

she has the right look definitely. her voice isn’t strong enough but lin chose her for a reason so we must trust him. i’m sure she will blow us away

I agree. IN THE HEIGHTS was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, so this is his baby. It’s the musical that put him on the map and gave him the opportunity to become the artist he is today. He is 200% involved in this film adaptation and has trusted others to bring to life his project. He didn’t just sell the rights and lost creative control. He’s on set daily alongside the film’s director Jon M. Chu, so both are collaborating completely which now has validated this film adaptation to me. Every person cast and every modification to the text he’s in control of so even though he’s not directing the film, this will have Lin’s stamp all over it.
Its also beautiful seeing screenshots of him FaceTiming from the set with original cast members like Karen Olivo. Both crying from excitement.

you got all that from one single picture posted on social media, without seeing one piece of footage of a performance dramatically or musically? yeah...okay. :: eye roll ::

I saw the entire film last night. Blown away. They’re only going to keep shooting for extra material for the Blu-ray and for tax purposes. Meryl Streep was there and gave a speech. The audience also sang “Happy Birthday, Mary Louise!” as they brought out a huge cake shaped like a wave (a reference to HBO’s BIG LITTLE LIES). The film of IN THE HEIGHTS is gorgeous. The soundtrack was available as a pre-order and the Playbills were incomplete but a nice touch.

Well it looks like they may be shooting Carnaval de Barrio hoy. Heard a little bit of Daphne's singing and I think it sounds pretty good, it's not like Andrea Burns, but she sings with personality. Can't wait to actually see her Daniela onscreen.

check out a clip from the opening number. the ladies look so gorgeous. daphne is giving me so much life as daniela. she sounds awesome and she is giving lots of sass with that walk. and dascha polanco looks stunning. i think cuca is gonna be a very likable character in this movie. i cannot wait.

Wow that is great footage, including the other photos and videos provided. Daphne sounds great and the ladies look fab, my favorite costume design so far. The filming seems to be going by so fast, with Carnaval, Breathe, the opening, When You're Home, The Club, and several other scenes already having been (all or mostly) filmed.

Don’t expect a role. He’ll definitely be in a scene and that’s about it.

I know some people wondered about this - LMM just responded to someone who asked on Twitter that he's singing his part in the original key.

i wonder how they’ll be shooting a blackout in nyc or if they’ll be using effects to make it look like one has happened
if Camila isn’t there... that makes no sense to me

Posted: 6/28/19 at 8:18amI forgot, but the blackout section wasn’t shot in Manhattan or Washington Heights. An extra posted a photo from the set. It was some underpass somewhere in NY.

I figured. Like I said, I don’t know too much about In the Heights, but I figured that there wouldn’t be a particularly big role for a middle aged, white basso profundo

For your viewing pleasure, here are a few on-set photos and yes, Christopher Jackson plays the Mr. Softee guy, Piragua Guy's rival. Yes, that's original Broadway Vanessa Karen Olivo alongside the film version's Vanessa: Melissa Barrera and Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia filming with Anthony Ramos and of course, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Piragua Guy. The original IN THE HEIGHTS "family" is still close:
