re: The Laurence Olivier Awards 2009

August can still get best company performance as well but that is the toughest category - up against Black Watch, Histories and Conquests.

They were good but not as good as August or Black Watch.

I think August will get best play. That Face was over-rated - the best thing about it was Dr Who's butt.

I think it was at the Barbican. Don't ask for how the West End is defined - it's not a geographical thing, more conceptual - a bit like a Jackson Pollock painting.

re: The Laurence Olivier Awards 2009

Ah ok. The Barbican is a pros arch though, right? Does that mean they changed the show from the traverse set up (playing area between two seating banks) I saw at Carriageworks during 2008 Sydney Festival?

Totally understand the conceptual idea of the West End. How then do the nominating committee for the Oliviers decide what is and what isn't applicable for the awards? Is it like Tonys which use seating capacity?

I've just realised I made an idiot-post earlier in this thread - extra glass of champagne for anyone who spots it.

Deffinitely not seating capacity, The Donmar holds 250!
ahh so they'll be another 10minutes...just reading the blog and read that Mamma Mia will be performing, do we think they'll mime? They AWLAYS mime, which i find odd being that they do it live 8times a week so they obviously can!

re: The Laurence Olivier Awards 2009

I think they stage Black Watch the same everywhere it goes so they may have rejigged the space at the Barbican.

"How then do the nominating committee for the Oliviers decide what is and what isn't applicable for the awards?"

Well, once they've managed to work out which day of the week it is, and then been out for lunch...

Too true Sam, didn't think about that. How do the committee decide what is up for nomination then?

Why on earth are Mamma Mia performing? Is it an anniversary of theirs (ala Lion King at the 08 Tonys)?

"Dave Tennent wasn't in That Face?"

Good try - but Matt Smith (the next Dr Who) was.

Not Pollock either.

Listening to a Gareth Gates interview on LBC.

I'm getting bored now, think they all have got pissed and forgot to come back for the second half!

False re-start.

Why is James Nesbitt presenting anyway - has he ever done anything on the West End stage?

re: The Laurence Olivier Awards 2009

Don't they realise we're all waiting?

This would never happen at the Tonys.

SoLT - wake up and do your job properly.
