Wonderful news...
It's a shame the Tony nominated performances of Kelli O'Hara and Matthew Morrison wont be perserved.
Well, this just made my day. I had the glorious pleasure of seeing the show again yesterday for the second time in about 8 months - and the way it has changed and grown is just phenomenal. Victoria Clark's Margaret has become so much richer (if that is possible) and dare I say it - so much funnier. And Aaron as Fabrizio was simply wonderful - his renditions of the songs made so much sense and didn't contain an ounce of grandstanding - good for him. As for Katie as Clara - her acting of the role was spot-on. No pretense, just lovely.
The show is and will remain one of my very favorites, and now I am thrilled that (if this news is correct) the show will be available for all to see, live from Lincoln Center.

I'm in the same position as Jwaa! I'll do (almost!) anything if anyone can help me get this recording after it airs...
rethot . . . when I saw this thread, the first person I thought of was you. I certainly hope that this DOES pan out, because I would LOVE to see it on TV and record it. I haven't seen Katie Clarke and have thought about going back . . . alas my budget is not allowing for that to happen, so a PBS airing is the next best thing!!!!
Dont worry- ill be taping it.
Why..?? Why this show??
Why this show? Because it is the most wonderfully written/performed/directed show currently playing the boards on Broadway.
Hanna - Katie is worth seeing - her take on Clara is very different from Kelli's. Vocally she seemed to be holding back a bit yesterday - but I just figured it was because it was a matinee on a two-show day. As I said before - the show is SO much funnier now, not that it needed to be - but it really has great moments lightness (pardon the pun). And Chris Sarandon is really good as Nacarelli, also. Very different from Mark Harelik (who was equally great).
Kelli is amazing! (I know her) but thts not the point. I didnt realize the show was ever funny.. But okay I see what your saying a little bit. I think it's becuase it's at Lincoln Center.

In regards to Katie's singing, I've seen her several times now and she is vocally underwhelming. Her acting is wonderful, but she "holds back" in singing constantly. Personally, I just don't feel she's vocally up to the part.

BillFinn,
Sorry, you pulled that out of your ***...
I'm watching the original movie on cable (TCM) right now. I was flipping channels and I knew immediately what this was as soon as I saw Margaret and Clara. I'm not sure who is Margaret in the movie, but she's definitely more "B*tchy" than Victoria's interpretation.

Do you think maybe Katie would go all out for the recorded version?
Margaret is Olivia de Havilland in the original movie.
I don't care WHO holds back. I would pay 100 bucks just to see the set and lighting design again.
Just thought I would revive this thread as BWW and Playbill announced as (I hope) an actuality today (although it is still not listed in the upcoming events section of the Live from Lincoln Center website).
Odd that Playbill is calling it a "filmed performance" - thereby negating the whole "Live" factor. They might be smarter to do it this way - the MET abandoned their "live" telecasts in the 90's opting instead to tape 2 or 3 performances and edit together a definitive version for later broadcast. This might be the smarter way to go with this particular show...
Broadway.com now reports it as a live telecast. Wonder which is the truth...
*falls over*
My life is complete.
YA! SO EXCITINg!
((positively dissolves with happiness))
This is such amazing news!

They brought back the original cast when INTO THE WOODS was taped for television. So it's likely that the OBC of Light In The Piazza had stipulations in their contracts that they would be used in any subsequent telecast. I'd like to see Victoria Clarke do it as she was out when I saw the show at Lincoln Center. The theatre was half-empty that night and I'm still trying to figure out the show has run so long.
Date marked and eagerly anticipating this!
