Anyone know when the soundtrack for the new Lion King is coming out??? I looked online and it says the digital release was supposed to be today 07/11.... Has it been moved??/
I cant wait, should be today, I guess its a matter of what time.
there was a short clip of Circle of Life that is sung by long time London Rafiki (but I was a bit bummed out that they sung it in the lower original movie key which does not do her amazing voice justice)
and IMHO, Spirit is no Shadowland, just saying.

I thought I read the same thing where it was supposed to come out today, but after some research it looks like it comes out the 19th now. On the other hand, Beyoncé’s album and single (new to the movie) inspired by the movie comes out today.
I’m mostly disappointed with this soundtrack. I was most looking forward to Circle of Life, but they literally took the original track from the original soundtrack and added a new vocalist on the verses. I’m kind of shocked at how uninspired it is. Also, Be Prepared is two minutes long and mostly spoken word, despite Chiwitel giving what sounds like a pretty interesting vocal performance. Beyonce and Billy Eichner are the stars of this soundtrack. Donald Glover is serviceable, nothing remarkable. The instrumental music itself sounds gorgeous, but I don’t know. My excitement for this movie just dropped quite a few notches, and I consider myself pretty easy to please when it comes to these musical remakes/adaptations.
I guess for me one of the highlights of the stage version is the use of African chants as actual songs and not just background chants you have to strain your ears to hear. I would have hoped they would have included more of this in the mew soundtrack/movie, but no such luck.

I had to laugh at this.
I'm kind of torn on what to call it, as it is a cast recording, i.e. character songs that advance the plot, but of a movie musical, not a live one. To me a soundtrack is songs that are in the background and not character or advancing the plot.
But all in all, I guess I accept whatever people what to call it, I know what they're referring to.
I'm avoiding listening to any of it until we see the move in a couple of weeks.
I just listened to the new soundtrack and.. it's disappointing. If they were going to use the original backing track for "Circle of Life" then why not use the original vocals as well? The new singer can't hold a candle to the '94 vocalist (who's name escapes me). "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" is ok, but like everything else here it lacks energy. "Be Prepared" flat out sucks. It's two minutes of spoken dialogue with some music in the background. "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" is supposed to be a duet, but Donald Glover sings it straight while Beyonce riffs like crazy. They sound like they're signing two different songs. And like was stated earlier, "Spirit" is ok, but the fact that "Shadowland" was available and not used is baffling.

Carmen Twillie did the main vocals on the 94 version of 'circle of life'. She not too long ago up here at the d23 expo and sang the song again. She still record for the Walt Disney company and it would have been cool to have her rerecord for the new track, but I do like the new singer. Her voice has the authentic South African sound that goes along with the film.
so i just watched the movie in theatres and the soundtrack fits the movie great (duh), but it's not something i would listen to on its own. i think the broadway version of "he lives in you" would've fit perfectly in the movie but oh well, still glad a version of it made it into the movie!
don't message me thinking im taylor trensch?? what would he be doing on bww?? you can't possibly be that dumb bye
Beyoncé new song is horrible and she drowns out Glover in Can you feel the love...WHY WHY WHY...it amazes me that she wrote that song SPIRIT and she sings it in a key she can not reach (to low) not a huge fan I find her beautiful but so average as a singer...and as an actress she is again average...but spectacular to look at

The new singer is a long time London Rafiki so she has the vocal chops for it, but I am baffled why they kept it in the lower key which really doesnt suit her, the should have just done it in the show key.
In a way I am glad Beyonce didnt try to sing shadowland, personally I dont believe she has the range to pull off the ending of the song, not convincingly anyway, would probably have to riff through it.
None of the show songs are included for those who asked. Yes He lives in You is on the soundtrack but I think its just an end credits thing and isnt sung in english.
Will wait to see what the second album does, if they are any songs from the movie or the show or if they are entirely new songs all together.

And while I'm on it, yes i did not expect there to be anything new in terms of songs for the movie, but to do the backing almost the EXACT same as the original as well as the songs seems to me to be a wasted opportunity to expand the score. Yes it is majestic at times but they could have done like the show and added in more sounds to make it fit in with its environment better.

Just got back from seeing the movie, and its a good movie, not quite shot for shot but most of the iconic shots are there. The dialogue is very different aswell, and because I am a fan of she stage version, its always odd to think you are following on with the dialogue and all of a sudden its totally different. but it was enjoyable except for 2 minor things. for some reason the audio level was very low compared to the trailers that came before, but that might be an issue with my cinema, also the aspect radio was off, like it was not taking up the whole screen as most movies do, which i thought was very odd.
But back to the soundtrack, it really is a shame they didnt use some of the stage songs, for example, there was a PERFECT setup for Endless Night, the scene was set perfectly for a number to be placed here. Shwdowland however would not really have worked where it is in the show because in the movie where shadowland is, is all about Nala escaping the pride. Also Scar does not try to make her queen like in the show. I guess too my favourite number, He Lives In You, could have also been used, they cut all the dialogue about the past can hurt and running from it etc.
