... and on The Tonight Show tomorrow! :) And Allison is on Ellen next Tuesday (the day after Dolly)
jeremiah - Nudity? Nah, not really. It's more of a sight gag in the hospital scene where one of the male patients turns around revealing an open hospital gown. That's more or less (depending on where you're sitting) the extent of nudity in the show. I'll have to think more about the language... I can't seem to recall anything more explicit than Hart calling the girls "bitches" several times.

Thanks Popular.
An agent "warned" me about it, though I could care less. Thanks thanks.
There is a comedic undertone throughout all of Hart's scenes though so his sexist, egotistical, bigot routine is just as forgivable as in the movie.
I'm not really phased by bad language so I may just not be remembering. To be honest, Stephanie's smoking shocked me more than anything else... and that I KNEW was coming! So yeah, pretty tame stuff. You'll be fine.

^^ Anyone know how they have characters smoke onstage without damaging the actors' voices? I guess what I'm asking is, do they just fake it with an unlit cigarette (or "marywanna cigarette"), or do they have something that can be lit and smoked safely? (I'd think smoke of any kind would be bad for the voice.)

This show has to win for scenic design! That set is amazing!
bard, I think if they do actually smoke they are those herbal cigarettes. There is nothing in them that will harm them but they taste pretty bad.

I guess I just figured that anything as dry as that would irritate the vocal chords, but that makes sense; thanks! :)
(If you watch the extras on the movie DVD, Dolly talks about that scene, and questions what they were really smoking. XD)
I really need to get the DVD.

Is there any merchandise being sold at the show in LA?
I heard that there is a shirt with the logo & one with a dart board that says "Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot".
I have been listening to 9to5 non stop for weeks now, I feel like I'm cheating on Patti with Dolly.
^^^^^ Yeah, they are selling merchandise.
Here's a piece on the show from NPR
NPR story
Here's the rest:
"Shine Like the Sun"- Possibly one of the best showtunes of year, maybe even the decade.
"One of the Boys"- Allison really shows how good she actually is and boy was she FIERCE!
"5 to 9"-Boring, unneeded and could be replaced.
"Mundania"- It's okay and I would love to see something else in its place.
"Get Out and Stay Out"- A great song! Really does not sound like a Dolly song and could be the biggest audition song since "Good Morning Baltimore."
"Let Love Grow"- The song was boring and a new song is welcome, but it works and both Allison and Andy are good.
"Finale: 9 to 5"- I liked the finale. Simple, effective, and at some points...hilarious!
The cast:
STEPHANIE J. BLOCK- Great job, great voice, but a little too "Elphaba" for me.
MEGAN HILTY- Hilarious! Perfect and great and does Dolly proud! Definitely the Tony nominee of the group.
ALLISON JANNEY- Not the greatest singer, but is surprisingly good and HILARIOUS!
MARC KUDISH- Funny, but extremely underused.
KATHY FITZGERALD-Okay. Could be replaced.
ANN HARADA-Very funny in her bit part. Always love her!
ANDY KARL-He was good, nothing new or amazing.
THE ENSEMBLE-On top of their game, great dancing and singing, and just plain awesome!
The Set: Amazing complexed with things flying in and rising up and pushed on and moving and spinning and everything. But still it's a great set and think it could win the Tony. We had one difficulty and that was the rising copy machine, but it worked in 2 minutes.
The Costumes: Perfect for the time period. Loved Stephanie's Dance O'Death dress and Allison's Potion Notion costume!
The Lights/Sound: Great and well done.
The songs overall: One or two weak links, but overall very fun and love it and Dolly has a big future ahead!
OVERALL: B+ or 8/10
I really like 5 to 9, it really explains Roz's obsession with Hart. I think the Best Musical will be down to 9to5 & Shrek with 9to5 winning it.
^ Think again though, this is the season of Billy Elliot.

I'm thinking Billy Elliot will flop. Does anyone know their advance?
Uh, Billy is one of the most highly anticipated musicals coming this season, from its amazing success in London... where are you getting the idea that its going to flop?
I just think all of the British history will transfer well. It will be a CRITICAL hit, but when it comes to the money I think it will flop.
They are mostly selling t-shirts. And some of them are just Dolly Parton shirts.
No nice programs.
And nothing black to wear backstage....
They are selling programs, which is surprising because it is an out of town tryout. They also have magnets and keychains.
Are they production or rehersal photos?
Mostly those early photos with the orange background. There are some rehearsal photos as well. They do not have those brand new production photos.
Are the rehearsal photos ones that haven't been seen online before?
And last I heard from someone, they had show shirts along with the Dolly shirts.
They didn't have the programs on the first preview!
Darn, I must go back, unless they are all the same pictures that are on the web site.
