Thank you for being selfish, which is obviously what we are all here for.

It's like a nest of vipers in some of these threads. Out of all the discussion boards that I participate in, this is by far the snarkiest, nastiest one I've encountered. Some of these people's primary purpose for being here seems to be to make others feel inadequate. Try blocking the major offenders; it can make your time here much more pleasant.

Do you think an individual seating thread for each show might be helpful?

Further blessings on your heads.

Let me just explain something here: When I started theater-going, we bought our tickets by writing to the box office, including a check or money order as well as a SSAE. We had no say in seating other than general location. We were happy with what we received.

This is what formed my ticket buying habits. Please remember, I pre-date the dial phone but realize our world has changed.

Okay now we our buy our tickets on-line with seating charts and we are concerned about locations. At today's ticket prices maybe we should be a bit more fussy about our sight-lines. (I have my opening night ticket stubs from HELLO DOLLY! --January 16, 1964, $9.90 each. Third row, center) Yes, I just bought a new dishwasher and consulted numerous reviews about them before making my purchase. Still, I prefer buying my tickets at the box office whenever possible.

I started this thread to clean-up our discussions about various shows. I still think it's a good idea but maybe we should start one for each new show.

Please express your feelings.

Show-specific seating threads make the most sense, as it reduces trolling. If you have a general thread for all shows, then everyone will say the best seat for Great Comet is outside the theater, etc., etc., and it would be impossible to wade through the thread coherently to find out where to sit for any given show.

I bookmarked this link years ago from someone's post on this board (don't remember whom or I'd give credit), and it's always worked for me. Haven't seen it come up since, so I thought I'd post it. My first post ever, so I hope the link works!

Perhaps these individual seating threads would be good places for people to sell extra tickets for those specific shows. Just a thought. Or maybe an additional thread for people selling/exchanging tickets?

What a great resource! Thank you for sharing this link. I also have a book entitled Applause: New York's Guide to the Performing Arts by Ruth Leon. I believe it's out of print, and as time goes by, it has gotten increasingly outdated. However, I still enjoy reading her seating recommendations as well as little tidbits about the different venues. I would gladly buy an updated version.

At Bandstand, how is th view on the far sides of row A or B?  Are seats that far to the side worth $100, or is the view severely obstracted? (Would I be better off with rush tickets, which I read are in the boxes?)

Okay, here's what I'm proposing :

When a show starts previews, we start the inevitable "preview"thread , but we also start a "sidecar" thread in which we can inquire about seat locations, sell or exchange tickets, inquire about merchandise, or discuss how mean the ushers are. The initial preview thread will be reserved for discussing the actual actual show. This way we can say whatever we want and have a great time dancing at Ermengarde's wedding, to boot.

The only way I get to 'see' any Broadway show is to revel in your shared experiences of said show here on BWW.

I love reading the preview threads--have a pad by my computer noting the thread and posting number so I know where to start reading each time but I LOATH being brought to a full stop when someone bleats on about sight lines from the alley outside  the theatre.

As Dollypop reminisced I too remember when......and even today I choose my seat with a real sales person at a booking office or online where the seat chosen tells me if the view is obstructed, or not.

By all means ask advice[and most get helpful responses] but please keep these questions out of a thread designed for people to report about said show.

Thank you.
