Stage Dooring Experience at the Helen Hayes Theater
My Day Trip on Aug, 11, 2007 Saturday was to watch the off-broadway play play 'eurydice' at the Second Stage Theater at 43 St which is actually 1 block from the Helen Hayes. So after the show, I was to able to swing by the Helen Hayes Theater for melodyrose's cap , which I totally forgot after I met some fANADUs at the theater (I'm sorry Melody and of course to get Lois' new Xanadu Plabill.. Well here's some of the pictures of my stage dooring experience at Helen Hayes after the 8/11 2 pm matinee show . As usual the cast was so nice to all the fANADUs- They all went out to the stage door (which is on the right as you exit to the theater) The whole stage dooring is probably about 10 minutes after the show.. Outside
at the stage door- There were two lines and It probably took me 20-30 minutes.
It depends.. if you wanna meet all the cast- probably add 30 mins to your 90 minutes Xanadu show...but its all worth it, Dont be shy ! You'll have a blast and The cast are soo nice and they'll take time to sign everyone's playbill and pose with everyone...TRY IT
(NOTE : I did not see the show , I just hangout at the stage door after I saw 'euridyce" - I will definitely write my Jaystarr's 10/10 Report on 'eurydice' )
Kerry Butler
Jackie Hoffman
Curtis Holbrook
Shannon Antalan
and Cheyenne Jackson....oh! I was not able to take his pics last time I was there so I went ahead and took as much pics of him this time
I really did not want to pose with Cheyenne (bec. I did not see the show/just stage dooring) but who can resist ? My only regret was I wish I put on my contact lens for this pic and one more thing ! Have you guys noticed that Cheyenne is very tan .. He looks "soo good" with a tan in person
To the guy who took this picture- Thank you so much

sigh...dreamy..CJ is yummy, but if I had a choice (in some wacky parallel universe) I would take Curtis in a hearbeat.
I go back and forth between Cheyenne and Curtis. They're both dreamy!
Going to the show next Saturday night, taking requests!
Can I just say, I love passing that huge pic of Cheyenne every morning going to work. Totally makes my day!

I have a couple of questions for fans of this show. I am going to New York over Labor Day Weekend with some friends who really want to see this. My first question is, if we haven't seen the movie on which it is based, do you recommend we see it before seeing the show to fully appreciate the show? Secondly, has this show been easily available at TKTS (particularly for weekends), or should we buy tickets in advance?
My first question is, if we haven't seen the movie on which it is based, do you recommend we see it before seeing the show to fully appreciate the show?
- the movie has the same premise as the musical.. a muse came to Venice beach to inspire an artist- that's about it.. per Douglas Carter Beane- there were like 3-4 lines from the movie .. for me - it was hard to see the movie bec. it was soo confusing and bad (hence the name "Xana-don't ) -but it does not hurt to see it.. If you can stay focus ...I guess I will recommend the movie (but pls bear in mind that the movie s*cks and the musical is soo entertaining & so different from the movie -
also see " Clash of the Titans"
Secondly, has this show been easily available at TKTS (particularly for weekends), or should we buy tickets in advance?
I just checked TKTS website for you and it was available last week, but not guarantee that it will be available on Labor Day Weekend- that's a busy weekend.
try buying onstage ..its only $ 41.00 and youre sure youll have ticket ( I just wont take my chances, if i were you ) I say, buy in advance....
Oops..another thing. BUY the Movie Soundtrack - that would help

I am so in love with this show. I have only seen it 3 times, but I also live in Houston. I just got back from NYC and saw it twice this past weekend. This show has become my all-time favorite. It really is just a fantastic time at a show. It totally grows on you.
I also bought the movie and watched it last night, of course it holds only minor comparisons to the musical on broadway. I agree that the movie was totally hard to follow. The songs do not fit with the story, only "I'm Alive" and "whenever You're away from me" fit, IMO.
^^ I agree.. specially most of the songs from the Movies soundtrack did not fit in the movie but it work perfectly in the Musical like Magic, Suddenly (which btw- so horrible in the movie IMO- in the sound stage, hahaha. ), Dont Walk Away & The Fall (which is really perfect in the musical-when the muses return back to the mural ) They also added 4 songs - from ELO's catalog -E-Evil Woman, Strange Magic, Fool & Have You Never been Mellow ( which I thought the funniest part of the musical ) Douglas Carter Beane did an excellent job writting the book for Xanadu - and I wont be suprise , if he gets a Tony nomination

BTW- If you have any questions-pls feel free to ask and post it here we will try to do our best to answer it.. and if I am wrong I am sure other posters will post the right answer ( I know someone who've seen the show 56X and I can ask him ) .. bec. I got a lot of pm's about the show- and It will be nice to share all the answers here-- this is not for fANADUs only ....and don't worry we dont bite
Thanks

and Rigazzi2- I will see you & your partner at the show (say 'hi" when you see me and I will try to get the answer for you- check your pm..

I found a great 3 minute video review which includes clips from the show & interviews with Cheyenne & Kerry. It would make a great TV promo...
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=1117771481&fr=slv8-mdp
Do the DU!
Wasn't FOOL actually in the movie or am I imagining things? I think the song appears in the finale where Olivia Newton-John is wearing this tiger outfit while singing, if I remember correctly...
And, Jeffrey, that's a great clip. One thing though: I wonder why has Kerry has opted not to sing that higher note in I'M ALIVE that appears in the promo videos for the show... Anika Larsen did it when I saw her go on...

"Fool" is sung in the movie and at the end of it. I am not too sure why it was never added to the movie soundtrack. It works perfectly in the musical though.

I did not know that " Fool " is in the movie, but not in the soundtrack. That's what i meant , if someone post a question..a lot of posters can answer and get the right one, rather than a pm (which btw- I am not the authority )

As I mentioned in another thread- I will be seeing XANADU again on Aug. 25 at 2 the pm show..so If you have any special request pls let me know & let me see what I can do for fellow posters (Actually I will be in NYC this weekend too for "Old Aquiantance" - so I might drop by the Helen Hayes again )

Q : ...I landed tix in orchestra Row L... As you've seen the show already and are at least somewhat familiar with the seating, would you be able to tell me if we will we be straining to see at all? ...-Rigazzi2
A: It depends where are you seating.. whether CENTER , LEFT (ODD) or RIGHT (EVEN) see chart below :
Based on my two experiences (sitting in the orchestra )
1st time we saw Xanadu on June 17. We were at Left Orchestra Row K seats 5-7.. I felt like we did not see the band (in a ruin greek gazebo) & Kerry's number singing with the two girls in "Dancing" number ,but most of the time the action is on the Center. (Most Likely if we were seating on the LEFT side- you might not have a good view of the Band and Kerry's number with "Dancing"-which is like 1 minute )
Then my 2nd time which is on Jun 23 (J Center 102) the view was perfect. But the theater is small enough and they have this intimate setting-so wherever you seating- I think you should be fine : -)
Hope I am not missing anything ? Additional comments on seating ?
BTW- Here's the seating chart :
