The Prince of Egypt

Posted: 7/1/05 at 1:37amThis has probably been discussed before but, what do you think of a Prince of Egypt musical? I think if they added a few more songs, it would be wonderful, and could be Disney's next biggest thing. Maybe even bigged than 'Lion King'.

Posted: 7/1/05 at 2:45amDisney does not own the rights to the movie. I doubt Disney will ever get the rights for the musical, especially the way Katzengerg was forced to resigned by Disney. Updated On: 7/1/05 at 02:45 AM

Hah...there is no way in hell Disney licensed this movie. It is Dreamworks all the way. This movie is Dreamwork's baby, because it is the first project that went into development when the company was formed.
I think with a very innovative director and designer, and maybe some expansion on the score and some tweaks to the book, this could be an amazing theatre project.

Posted: 7/1/05 at 2:56amDreamwork can do it if they wan't to. They certainly have the resources to put on a big production. After all, Dreamwork is owned by Katzengerg, Spielberg and Geffen.

Posted: 7/1/05 at 2:58amThe production itself would be very cool to watch. Let's hope Val Kilmer doesn't revive his role though.

I personally would love to see Will Chase or Brian D'Arcy James in the Moses role...hah that is random. I don't even know where that came from. These meds are getting to me.

Posted: 7/1/05 at 6:42pmi would like to see it done only if the egyptians are accurately portrayed. i dont wanna see jeremy kushnier playing ramses, or idina menzel playing Zipporah

Posted: 7/1/05 at 7:11pmi love the songs in this and seeing it live would be a dream. ironically, the Moses episode of the Simpsons is on right this moment.

Posted: 7/1/05 at 7:30pmi like this idea because i'm actually not a fan of unnatural costuming like in lion king and what will be tarzan and little mermaid...

Posted: 7/1/05 at 8:48pmI've actually written a stage version of THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. Anyone who wants it can either e-mail me, or I'll put it in the GibCo blog in my free time.

Posted: 7/14/06 at 12:28amI was actually just thinking about The Prince of Egypt for some reason, LOL. I think it would make a great musical. So would other Dreamworks movies.

No, Disney didn't create every single animated movie on the face of the Earth. Dreamworks did PRINCE OF EGYPT. 20th Century Fox did ANASTASIA. Warner Bros. did CATS DON'T DANCE.
That is all.

Yeah, there's no way in hell any studio (besides Pixar) would join up with Disney on any animated project. Disney is the studio that every animated movie from other American studio competes with. No studio would go and put more money into Disney's pocket.
Anyway, on topic, even though I'm sort of over the whole "Lets turn every movie into a musical!" trend, I've always thought Prince of Egypt lends itself VERY well to the stage. The music is quite excellent, and the ending of "The Plagues" when Radames and Moses are both singing I've always thought is soooo musical theater. Against my better judgement, I'd say I'm for it, if it ever comes into fruition.
