Me being the Disney fanatic that I am, I made sure to catch this movie and while watching it I couldn't help thinking that it was created with the idea of coming to Broadway in mind. Now, of course I thought, "How the hell would they do frogs on stage?" then I quickly realized the success of The Lion King. Anyway, I have to say this was one of the cuter Disney movies (I personally think it was one of the better ones since Beauty and The Beast, as I'm not the biggest Lion King fan.) Bottom line is, I wouldn't be surprised if this hits the Great White Way in the near future.
Thoughts (anyone else see it)?
I don't know about it transferring to stage, but I do think it was Disney's best hand-drawn film since Mulan in 1998. This one is up there with Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty for me.
As someone who hates the idea of the Lion King costumes... and really anytime they decide to make an animal on stage (Someone wearing a hat with an animal on it bothers me... cause I can still see the person... they need to go invisible :P), I really find it hard to believe they can recreate it on stage. However, I love the movie

That isn't too high of a compliment, considering the films that came out in that time... except Lilo & Stitch.
As for a stage show, time will tell. We don't know how popular Princess & the Frog is going to be. But then, I didn't think Tarzan was all that popular. I liked the film alright, but I think it's definitely below the Disney "Renaissance" of the early 90s. The music is good but not extraordinary, and definitely lacks the Ashman/Menken verve that really made Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid stellar and memorable. I don't see the songs going down as being as memorable as other Disney greats, and there doesn't seem to be an indication of any breakout "hit".

Well Alan Menken has been working on Enchanted... It's only a matter of time before we get an announcement of a stage version...
If we were to get a stage version of Enchanted, how would they recreate the animated sequences of the film? That has alot of the basis to why Giselle is the way she is in the real world.

Someone here suggested they do the first ten minutes of the actual animated film.

Maybe they could project the animated sequences onto a scrim, while it is acted live, a la Shrek the Musical... (the live animation effects for the Magic Mirror...)
I would go see it! :) However, here's one thing about recreating the frogs on stage...in the movie, the drawings were bland. For two main characters of the movie, they still looked like any old frog for the most part. How would they make the frogs pop on stage, let alone MAKE them frogs?
And about Enchanted...Disney is having issues with making Giselle a Disney Princess because they'd have to be paying rights to Amy Adams' image. I hear now their lawyers told them that they discovered that the differences between the cartoon and real versions are different enough where Disney wouldn't have to pay rights to Amy Adams. So even if a musical does happen, who knows when Disney will approve of it. Kinda like the whole Hunchback ordeal.
I don't personally believe this should come to Broadway, but I think some first-rate puppetry could be an effective way to tell the story, and might also seem like a good commercial choice coming off the Broadway successes of The Lion King/Avenue Q. I know Avenue Q has totally different audience, but the fact that the puppetry in that show was viewed by audiences as an asset, rather than a handicap, can't hurt.
God, no! The movie sucked, and the music even more so.
This will never be transferred onto the stage. Mark my words.
Disney Theatrics has a "full plate" of slated projects (mostly unannounced), both in development and preliminary stages, and are not interested in making this a stage production.
It was a cute movie...at best.
They should just stick to staging these films at the theme parks for a while.
They could make the beginning of Enchanted work onstage with a lot of bright colors, to contrast it against the "real world." It's possible.
It would be interesting to see this as a musical, but who know. Disney seems to put every show on the stage, eventually, so maybe one day it will get the same treatment. Seeing as I live in New Orleans, it was nice to seem Disney make it look like such a magical fairy tale type land, but it was still amazing nevertheless.
"so maybe one day it will get the same treatment."
Not happening. Executives at Disney Theatrics have absolutely no interest.
WDW & Co. is currently in talks with their consultants at both Disney Live! and Disney Parks (which they obviously own), regarding a potential stage version, and that's about it. Again... it's all chatter - nothing close to official or preliminary.
The movie was just released so we'll see. If they go for it, it won't be on Broadway - perhaps Disneyworld, though.
