Just noticed the other day that every time Richard Kind is cast in a show, it never works out well for him.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - Replaced Greg JBara - show closed two-three weeks later.
Sly Fox - Replaced Richard Dreyfuss - Show closed 12 days later.
The Tale of Allergist's Wife - Replaced Tony Roberts - Show closed 4 months later.
Bounce - Closed out of town.
The only show that had an okay run after him was The Producers. Two years.
Coincidence? I. Think. NOT!!!
I think it's more related to the point a show has to be at in its run to cast Richard Kind, not a curse of his own.

I think the Roz Kind curse is more lethal.
He is the Ted McGinley of American theater.

Though Ace Young is fighting hard for that title
I know, I just thought it was funny. lol I really do like Richard Kind. He's hysterical and doesn't have the worst voice. I hope he can get a good role on Broadway that suits him one day.
I was actually told by a theatre-critic friend that Kind was brilliant in Sly Fox and light years better than Dreyfuss. Overall, though, Scott is correct. Kind is a talented actor who has never found the right vehicle. He was great in Bounce--the only part of the show that really, truly worked; his performance was award-worthy.
As much as I loved Alex Gemignani in Road Show (I'm in the minority of those who actually liked Road Show), why wasn't Kind recast? He was extraordinary, just judging from the Bounce album.
I've never seen Richard Kind onstage, but I've always thought his work on film and TV (even when the material's been well beneath his talents) to be stellar, and I love his work on the BOUNCE recording.
I think it had to do with the direction in which Sondheim took the character. Gemignani played Addie as someone who completely hated his life, which seemed to be in line with the changes made in the show. Kind's performance was ebullient--the character obviously suffered from depression, but he was also so full of life at moments and genuinely blissful. He really got the character, IMO.

I went to college with Richard, and you will never meet a sweeter, kinder, funnier or more talented man! Just never found his perfect Broadway role.

I've seen him twice on stage and thoroughly enjoyed him both times. His SLY was so funny and he was much more energetic than Dreyfus.
He also made a great Nathan Detroit. Incredibly funny but also warm and endearing.
Glad I got a chance to see him in something other than SPIN CITY reruns.
I worked with Richard when he played Psuedolus in Forum and he was brilliant! The crowd loved him
I think his best (and possible smallest) role was in BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY
DRS and of course THE PRODUCERS are two of my very favorite musicals. I wish I had had the opportunity to see him in both... but then again I don't because Max and Andre are two of my favorite characters and Nathan and Greg are two of my favorite performers. I'm afraid I might not have the affection I have for Mr Kind if I had actually seen him... I would have hated him even if he was good *lol*
He was the best thing in BOUNCE.
I agree, he was definitley the best thing about Bounce. I'd love to see him in something on Broadway soon. I heard he was great in Forum, and I can totally see him in the role.

Again with the Ted McGinley!
Ted McGinley joined Married With Children in its third season. It ran EIGHT MORE SEASONS.
He joined Love Boat and Happy Days long after they had already jumped the shark (literally, in the case of Happy Days).
I don't think you can have a flop curse discussion without the mention of Debra Monk.
I thought he was great in Candide a few years ago.
I see him at my gym a lot. :)

We just saw Mr. Kind in a benefit reading of short plays centered on gay marriage. One of his readings was a eulogy at the funeral for his husband of many years. He was astonishing and riveting, and took the entire audience on a trip through seemingly every emotion imaginable. And it was only a reading.
Any chance of him getting cast in Phantom or Mamma Mia???
