Just thought I would remind everyone that The LA Opera's Production Of Brecht and Kurt Weill's The Rise And Fall of The City of Mahagonny airs tonight directed by John Doyle and starring Patti Lupone and Audra McDonald go on PBS to check your local listings it airs for me at 9:00pm on PBSHD

MovieDan, it's opera. Most of the singers don't have microphones except for Patti and that other guy.

Holy smokes! I just turned in on the PBS HD channel and it looks GORGEOUS! The regular version on the regular PBS station looks fuzzy and blurry but this HD broadcast is so damn sharp and crisp -- you can even see the veins on Audra's body. OUCH! The colors, the costumes -- everything! I'm definitely keeping this HD broadcast on my Tivo. Here's hoping this is released on both or either HD DVD or Blu-ray.

Keeping my finger's crossed John Doyle's COMPANY was also shot in HD.

I did a search and there doesn't seem to be any current plans to release this in any HD format. And I agree, this looks great in HD, whatever happened to the HD airing of Legally Blonde?

I have to agree with moviedan. I understood Patti, but didn't have any idea what Audra was saying with the exception of the last word of every sentence.

i have to disagree, i thought audra's diction was superb, could understand almost every word of that audra and most of what patti sang. can't say the same for the others...

I love how Audra and Patti were wiping the floor with virtually every other performer on stage when it came to acting...Audra out acted AND outsang some people...of course I'm biased.

Mattbrain, because this was television most of the cast was using microphones. The sound could have been a bit better.
