Don't be silly. The reason I don't care for "The Sound of Music" is because it is overly-saccharine, cloying and maudlin.
What about the snooze fest that was on last week? When the Wiz began I thought we were in for a good plot and Stephanie Mills sang beautifully. But when Dorothy moved to the garden of elves. ahhhh!! The Sound of Music is actually a very good show based on a true story.
That being said, I do not believe we are ever going to break away from fairy-tales on NBC. But at least Fox and other channels are on board so maybe we will get West Side Story, In the Heights and more interesting titles.
Also in England the Sound of Music show is much more popular than in the USA. Just six years ago the show was playing at the London Palladium to great critical acclaim. It was extremely hard to get a thicket when the show opened. I do hope that ITV will continue bringing live theatre.
With all due respect Danster you are entitled to your opinion, but if you don't mind I am still sticking to mine. "The Sound of Music" is in my opinion overly saccharine, cloying and maudlin. I've never cared for it and I never will.
