Has anyone heard anything on this show? Other than Elton John is writing the music and it is due for next season.

All that I read is that the music is very different for Elton. Supposedly not at all 'popish'. More operatic in tone. Of course, I'm sure the critics, both amateur and professional alike, will have a field day. Being a fan of Elton's, Aida, and Anne Rice, I'm really looking forward to this show. I'm also looking forward to Elton's 'Billy Elliot', but I understand that he'll be opening that in London's West End before mounting a Braodway production.

I heard a bootleg of some of the songs with Elton singing. It sounds amazing. I'm a huge fan of the books, and I'm really excited about this one.

I am glad that he is not doing a very popish sound to it, because that really doesn't fit for what the show would be about! This sounds like new ground for Elton, I can't wait!

Does anyone know what story line it would be? And is Anne Rice involved with creating it?

I think last I heard Anne Rice is going to be a part of it. I certainly hope so anyway:)

I also hope that Elton uses a big big big orchestra sound. Lestat is such a big character...the man has a huge ego :) He needs a big sound, big music.

Well it is based on Anne Rice's second book, The Vampire Lestat (the sequel to Interview With a Vampire) here is a synopsis of the book:
Lestat. The vampire hero of Anne Rice’s enthralling novel is a creature of the darkest and richest imagination. Once an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-revolutionary France, now a rock star in the demonic, shimmering 1980s, he rushes through the centuries in search of others like him, seeking answers to the mystery of his eternal, terrifying existence. His is a mesmerizing story–passionate, complex, and thrilling.

Gee, just what Broadway needs, another Vampire musical, since the two others did so darn well.

Thanks Broadwaychild89 & tristarr3. And tristarr3 I agree with you, Lestat is a VERY large character. I hope they do him justice. He truly deserves it.

Al Dente I think Lestat is a Vampire a lot of people are going to want to see. The name alone will be a big draw.

Lestat is amazing. If you haven't read the books, do so. I've read up until The Vampire Armand, just because I hate Armand and don't want to have to read it. But The Vampire Lestat is definitely my favorite of the Vampire Chronicles.

James Barbour played Lestat in the workshop. Mmmm... James Barbour as a vampire in leather pants... hehe

The great thing about Lestat is that it's NOT like the other vampire stories. Dracula/DOTV, what are they about? The elaborate-ness of vampires, the blood, the seduction. Lestat is about self-recognition and purpose. He's completely different. Closer to the Whedon-verse than any of those other vampire stories (but different from Whedon-verse altogether). He doesn't go around seducing women, he makes vampire-friends, tries to find out what the purpose of being a vampire is, where he comes from etc. It's an amazing story, I don't do it justice here.

Last thing I heard though, Elton had put it aside to work on Billy Elliot.

SarahHIYE why don't you like the Vampire Armand? There's something about him I do like and read his story as well.

I do agree with you that he is different from any other vampire. And if any vampire would make it on Broadway, it would be him.

Michael Arden played Louis in the workshop.

Mmmmm...Michael Arden. re: The Vampire Lestat I hope if this musical ever gets finalized and brought to NYC, that Michael would play Louis again.

I knew some other ardenites would beat me. I saw this and i was like oh i wonder if they know that michael was in it. It sucks that he is in bare and might not be able to do anything else with this show, but I think i would more enjoy him in bare. Although pretty much everything he does is amazing.

Just revisited this post and saw your question UDJAT. Why don't I like Armand? Well, lets just say it's part Antonio (Armand is a child, anyone remember?! Plus I just didn't like his portrayal) and part just the fact that Armand's a wanker. I hate what he did in Interview, I HATE what he did at the end of Memnoch, and I don't want to read his story cause I already hate him. Pheh?

But Lestat is an awesome story. I would love to see it musical-ed. hehe

They did a horrible film version of "The vampire lestat" but they merged it with the "Queen of the damned" story...Allayiah's last film role...Wow, I can NEVER spell her name correctly...
