With the food/beverage minimum, it came out to about $40ish for me.

I'll just chime in and say that this show is brilliant. However, unless you end up with great seats, the venue sucks. They have so many chairs and tables shoved in there that it is like a sardine can. If you are in the back, like I was, waiters and people who have to pee will be doing the zombie walk back and forth in front of you relentlessly for the entire show. It got so annoying for us that by the end, we were over it. The waiters start dropping checks during the finale and then no one is paying any attention to the show. It is a big problem.

This show should not be performed in this sort of venue. It's too good. Cherry Lane would br great for it. Maybe Barrow Street? Who knows. But the current venue sucks.

I agree with you Matt, this is the wrong venue for this show. When I got there the first thing I did was look for the fire exits to make sure they were sufficient. The VIP seats were great. But the further back - bad! A grungy cramped basement with poor seating is not a theater. This show deserves MUCH better. And so does Laurie Beechman.

The stage is raised, right? So the problem is the wait staff and patrons walking back and forth in front of you? I saw a show there a couple of years back and thought the venue was okay.

Yes, Mac, the stage is raised. The front third of the venue and along the sides are small tables for two or four people. The back two-thirds are community seating tables for eight. Since I'm sure they make more money off the food and drinks than they do the ticket sales there is, as Matt points out. a constant parade of waitstaff coming and going throughout the show then of course, the resulting bathroom trips for the patrons. I sat in the rear on the main aisle and found this very annoying. After a while though, I kind of blocked it out.

The people I REALLY felt sorry for were the diners upstairs who had to endure the long and noisy line-up of show attendees snaking through the restaurant for 40 minutes or so until the dungeon downstairs opened its doors.

Thanks for the answer! I didn't get the VIP seats, so I'll have to make the best of whatever the situation is. I assume we need to get there early, right? What time did people start to be seated?

Mac:

We went to the midnight show and arrived about 11PM thinking we'd get settled in and have our drinks while waiting for the show to begin. The host at the restaurant said that we couldn't line up until 11:45PM then dismissed us. We returned about 11:35PM to find a long line already winding through the restaurant. On my way to the bathroom, I asked the people at the front of the line what time they got in line and they told me around 11:15PM. I pointed out to the host that his misinformation wasn't appreciated but he was completely unapologetic. The people in the front of the line definitely got better general admission seats than those of us towards the end of it but since my seat afforded me a one-on-one with the lovely Jinkx, I really can't complain.

I'm wondering if they set the room up differently for various shows?

I've seen a bunch of shows here and the set up
Always looks about the same to me. If I were going to do
It again, I would probably figure out some way to spring for the VIP seats. Sitting in the back was a little slice of hell. If the show had not been so incredible, we would have left.

I saw the show last night, and as others have already said, it is terrific! My friend and I laughed the whole time. Jinx is amazing; she must be seen to be believed. What a voice! Plus, three costume changes. I don't know if there are any tickets left, but if there are, I highly recommend seeing this.

I attended the 7:30 show, and everything was very easy. My friend got there at 6:15 and got us a table for two (non VIP). We had drinks and salads, and were very happy. Service was good. (The tip was included in the bill, so be aware of that.) We could see fine from where we were. I would recommend the VIP seats if you can afford them, though. Nice view! I look forward to seeing her again in other types of shows.

Also, Kad, thanks for posting the song list!

In case anyone missed this the first time, here's the return engagement, for one week only. I highly recommend this show. It's lots of fun!

THE VAUDEVILLIANS starring JINKX MONSOON
June 15 - 22:
Laurie Beechman Theatre, 407 West 42nd Street.
Jinkx Monsoon & Major Scales are back for 1 week only with their hit musical comedy! While touring Antarctica in the 1920's, THE VAUDEVILLIANS were frozen alive in an avalanche. Thanks to global warming, they recently thawed out. Now they are back to reclaim the music stolen from them -- including "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (originally about the woman's Suffragette movement), and "Drop it Like it's Hot" (about the invention of the electric iron)! Tix are $25 (+ $15 food/drink minimum) at 212-352-3101 or click HERE. VIP Tickets for $50, which include preferred seating, a post-show meet-and-greet, and a photo op with Jinkx, are also available.

Is there an age limit for the show? Can I bring teen fans?
I called but they were closed for the night.

I doubt the show has an age limit. I was at Jinkx's show at the Laurie Beechman on Sunday and there was a little boy there who could not have been older than eight or nine.

Saw the show last night and it was hilarious. We had VIP seats and I was glad we did as it's a long narrow space and while Jinkx did walk around on the floor a couple of times I think being closer would up the enjoyment. Dying to know if the guy she brought on stage was a plant. She got very friendly with him.
