I’ve been told, at best, an update would be either late this month or early October. 

Unfortunately this is not a quick process. As these issues were present in the theatrical rerelease, Universal has to fix & send out a new master, disc manufacturing plants are backed up, etc. 


I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

We hope you're doing well! We've made a correction to our 4K and Blu-ray editions of THE WIZ to fix issues with the feature ATMOS soundtrack. We have also added an additional soundtrack to the release, the original theatrical 70mm 6-track
soundtrack. As a thank you for shopping with us directly, we will send you the replacement discs for your copy of THE WIZ 4K UHD + Blu-ray automatically and free of charge with no
further action needed. If your shipping address has changed since June, when your initial purchase of THE WIZ was shipped,
please let us know as soon as possible. You can review your order and associated mailing address
on your Criterion.com account dashboard here: https:/.
www.criterion.com/account The replacement discs are currently scheduled to go out in late September to mid October. Tracking will be emailed to you automatically from our Pitney shipping
account once the discs are being packed. Finally, please hold on to the issue discs for now but discard them as soon as the replacement versions are
received successfully.

Does anyone know how I can obtain a disc replacement? I didn’t purchase my copy from Criterion but from Amazon.

Carlos - if you’re not able to issue a return/replacement through Amazon directly, reach out to mulvaney@criterion.com. Criterion’s support is fantastic and they usually are able to help navigate these orders/replacements.

This happened to me a number of years ago, I just had to provide the order information (screenshots/emails) and they had me provide proof that I destroyed the discs before sending the new one. Not sure if the latter is still the case.

Hey Carlos, I asked about your situation, here is the update:

 

We've made a correction to our 4K and Blu-ray editions of THE WIZ to fix issues with the feature ATMOS soundtrack. 

We have also added an additional soundtrack to the release, the original theatrical 70mm 6-track soundtrack.

 

Please note that we are prioritizing replacements for fans who pre-ordered directly from Criterion.com, so those will go out first in the coming weeks, but anyone who has these first pressing discs is eligible for a replacement, regardless of where it was purchased.

 

If you would like us to add you to our queue now, please send us the following:

  • A photo of the defective disc(s) with your name and date written on the front/art side (using a sharpie or paint marker - you can write this info on the lighter portion of the disc, and take a photo against a light source so your name and date are visible). You do not need to break the disc.
  • Note that if you purchased the 4K UHD + Blu-ray version, we need a photo of both marked discs; if you have the Blu-ray version only, a photo of the single disc is sufficient
  • A snapshot of your original purchase receipt, if available

Replacement discs are estimated to start going out in late September to mid October

Tracking will be emailed to you automatically from our Pitney shipping account once the discs are being packed.

 

Please hold on to the issue disc(s) for now but discard them as soon as the replacement versions are received successfully
