The Worst Broadway Theatre

I want to know the msot uncomfortable worst house construction for a broadway theatre(hows the balcony,leg room,etc.) in your opinion name a theatre and why.

Personally my experiences have been pretty good. But, I'm a tall guy(6'1) and the worst theatre for being comfortable for me was the Imperial. I had to slightly lift my legs up to be able to sit through BFO.

The Minskoff, to me, is certainly the worst laid out theatre. It's like a friggin' CAVE in there.

I was in the Mezz at the Imperial and the floor itself was slightly tilted at and angle to the right. With that and no leg room, it was horribly uncomfortable. At the time, the theatre also reeked of dust and mold and my allergies went haywire trying to watch Les Miz in 1997. I ended up with a numb butt and a sinus infection.

so the imperial even though its gorgeous(i love the lobby) is just a terrible house inside..Sounds like i'll be having more fun when i see DRS(or dirty rotten scoundrels for the 1.7 of you that don't know)

I'm not sure which theatre THE PROCUCERS is at, but I think it is the St. James. I did not like that theatre at all. And the sound system was terrible.

whats wierd though is that the suede seats weren't terrible it was the leg room that did me in. Which is the opposite in the lyceum(decent actual seats plenty of leg room)

We had a very uncomfortable experience at the Neil Simon Theater. We were in the orchestra, towards the back, and it was so claustrophobic there. I don't recall there being much room between rows at all.

I think the john golden theatre has teh worst seats. I was seated in the front row (got lottery) and it felt like i was sitting on a cardboard box. haha but it sure is appropriet for avenue q.

I'm lucky enough to be on the short side, and I had an aisle seat when I was at BFO, so the Imperial wasn't that bad for me. Besides, the theater has its strong points- there are no osbtructed seats and even the rear mezz has pretty good views.

Sitting my butt down on a bar stool at Studio 54, though, was a bit less comfortable. And was there any seat there that didn't have comfort issues or obstruction during the run of Assassins?

The Gershwin, while more comfortable, has its weak points- unless it's got a giant show like Wicked, it tends to swallow up any production that dares run there.

Im not a big fan of the Minskoff or the Ambassador... the Ambassador, however, has begun to grow on me.

I've never been less comfortable than in the mezz at the Lunt Fontainne, not meant for us 6 foot 5 folks, that's for sure.

Among the old theatres, The Palace has an orchestra floor that is way way below stage level, a mezz that is as steep as an Alp and a 2nd balcony that is in Jersey. The only remotely good seats there are the first few rows of the mezz.

The BAM-Harvey Theatre has about the single most uncomfortable seats devised for a circus tent much less a theatre. Horrible.

Of the new theatres here is a vote for stripping the Minskoff to the bare walls and starting over.

BUT and this is a big exception, if the show is good, who cares about the theatre.

The Richard Rodgers is ok if you are toward the front of the orchestra or in the mezzanine. The rear of the orchestra is TERRIBLE. The seats rise at a severe angle behind row N or so which means that the overhang of the mezzanine severely restricts the view of the top half of the stage. For Movin' Out, this means you will not see the band for most of the show. For Private Lives, it meant that you missed the gorgeous set. This can be a problem toward the back of many orchestra seating areas, but I've never seen it as bad as it is at the Richard Rodgers.

For lack of leg-room and crammed together seats it's hard to beat the Eugene O'Neill, orchestra or mezzanine.

For just plain ugliness I'd say the Ambassador.

Yeah, I had forgotten about the Palace's Mezz. I feel like I'm going to fall off into the Orchestra and it scares the hell out of me.

Actually, the leg room situation in the Eugene O'Neill mezz was pretty bad. But I had an aisle seat again, and Caroline was good enough for me to forgive the lack of space. (It's really not fun sitting through a show when your socks are soaked through with rain, though.)

Sure, Plum, we shorties have it good when it comes to leg room, but I for one often have to contort my head around the friggin' giant that inevitably sits in front of me at a show.

I am trying to remember where The Iceman Cometh played in the recent revival with Kevin Spacey -- I think it was the O'Neil (ironic) but I just remember sitting for so long in very uncomfortable seats -- thanks god the production was wonderful -- otherwise it would have been TORTURE....

Iceman played the Brooks which is terribly maintained (Are you reading, Nederlanders?), but is an okay theatre once one gets past the fact that it is dumpy.
