The front rows at the Beaumont killed me. The tilt doesn't get going until several rows back, so when I was in the second row, I thought I was going to drop dead from DVT. Even if I spread my legs apart, my knees were still wedged to the point of immobility against the seat in front of me. Considering the running time of "Cymbeline" and the Utopias, that's agony.

Nothing beats the front mezz at the Biltmore. Those seats are like first-class airline seats.

The Lyceum and Shubert balconies are awful.

I'm so glad to read this thread, because I've been wondering about this for a while. As a heavier person, some of the very old, very small seats can be torture to sit in for three hours. Not to mention I'm concerned about the people around me. I know it's not super comfortable for them either if we're all squeezed in there. So half the show I'm not paying attention because I'm trying to make sure that I'm not making the other people uncomfortable or I'm just almost in pain. Sometimes I think standing room would be better. I was late to Legally Blonde last week, because my train was late in arriving. When I got there I asked them to put me somewhere in the back or let me stand until intermission. They have this section to the side that is all regular chairs, as opposed to the normal seats. It was very comfortable and the view was still great. When I went to look for my regular seat during intermission...eeek! Although it was soooo close to the stage and I would have loved it, it would have been torture for myself and the people I was in between. So I opted to stay in the side section. But I was wondering if anybody else has experienced something like this or have family or friends who have. It's actually one of the main factors in the shows I decide to see now. (Just so nobody gets mean...I am working on this...hopefully soon it won't be a big deal anymore. But in the meantime, I still want to see shows.)

Back of Studio 54 is a nightmare- youre so far away from the stage. Might as well watch clips on youtube.

Just saw Xanadu and I while the sightlines were fine, the physical comfort level left alot to be desired- it was literally impossible to squeeze into the rear orchestra seats and I am really not much more than 6 feet tall.

Favorite theaters are circle in the square- always a good view, not that crowded- and the barrymore where the seats are INSALEY comfortable and everything just seems perfect.

I'm not sure about uncomfortable leg room or anything, but the Nederlander looks like a *crap* hole from the outside.
Tourists need to learn that graffiti advertising how much you love the show or how you want Jonathan Larson to rest in peace is not charming, and just because Rent feels like a rock concert, the theatre doesn't need to look like an abandoned warehouse.
