Probably not the appropriate thread for this but i was wondering if the original Cast performed at the Tony's in '72. They aren't listed as performers on the Wikipedia page for the ceremony. If they didn't I just wondered why. They were still running weren't they?

RE: recouping 7.3 million. The cost to mount it on Broadway would not quite be $7.3 million would it? Considering the sets are already constructed, most of the cast rehearsed etc.. (I think this was mentioned in a previous article), and how much would they have got back from ticket sales in Washington? (a previous article claimed very high average ticket price)..So maybe recouping, if unlikely, isn't unimaginable..

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Frank

They didn't perform. The tonys were so weird in the late 60s -early 80s. They didn't always have performances from every show

Here's what performed that year

The tony site has every performance from every tony awards

News of the transfer was posted on PerezHilton

http://perezhilton.com/2011-06-30-bernadette-peters-returns-to-broadway-with-follies

And there is a really cringeworthy comment:

"Its good to see her back, but check your facts. The revivial wasnt "celebrated" in DC. The reviews were mixed to adequate. It still needs a lot of work before it can beat the last attempt to revive it (with Treat Williams, Blythe Danner, etc)."

I saw that. That person sounds truly uninformed, lol. That last revival was considered a huge disaster. Brantley was much more responsive to the KC production than the 2001 revival.

I wondered if that would incriminate me (and now ljay), but I'm sure that we both clicked the link from the FOLLIES ON BROADWAY facebook page.
