There Will Be No Live From Lincoln Center Filming of THE KING & I

Ugh it would have been so nice to capture this beautiful production and Kelli's Tony winning performance.

Kelli's performance has been captured and does survive in excellent quality digital form. Alas, not officially.

They should, at the very least, film the tour. I get that it's closing so suddenly, but shouldn't they have prepared like 6 months in advance.

Clearly the universe sacrificed this to give us the SHE LOVES ME livestream and honestly I don't mind.

It is very very sad however. Would have been a lovely companion to the SOUTH PACIFIC broadcast.

Spare me. Have you seen South Pacific on tour? Its not worth it. I would rather wait for the next revival.

That's bizarre. I can't believe they didn't plan in advance to preserve a recording of such a gorgeous, critically acclaimed, Tony-winning production. What a shame.

I'm assuming they at least have a recording for the NYPL?

Yes, it was taped for the TOFT archive on July 8, 2015, and featured Kelli O'Hara & Ken Watanabe.

I'm a little confused when you talk about no filming. South Pacific and A Light in the Piazza both broadcast live productions during the last week of their runs, on 8/18/2010 and 15 June 2006. Other Live from Lincoln Center broadcasts, including the concert versions of Carousel (Nathan Gunn and Kelli O'Hara) and South Pacific (Reba McEntire) were filmed and broadcast several months after they occurred. ( I guess these were "Films of Live From Lincoln Center"

If you don't believe that the 2008 South Pacific production was broadcast live, just ask host Alan Alda, who was caught interviewing creatives during intermission and went overtime into the 2nd Act Overture, annoying many viewers.

I hope that they at least have a film version of sufficient quality to show on Live from Lincoln Center or Great Performances.

I correct myself. The concert version of South Pacific with Brian Stokes Mitchell and Reba McEntire at Lincoln Center was a Great Performances, and is available on DVD.

Marin's performance is stronger than Kelli's so I wish they would have filmed it. Too bad.

sad. this beautiful production and War Horse should have been filmed live for PBS.
