I probably would be more interested in seeing "Pirate Queen," based on what I have heard about it and the short clips I have seen(from the Tony Awards).
I enjoyed TARZAN.
I loved the music and the story.
Plus, I love Jenn Gambatese and Josh Strickland.
Pirate Queen was a giant mess of stolen songs, scenes and sets that has gone down as the biggest financial loss in theatre history.
Tarzan ran for more than a year.
Im not trying to be bias but I just dont understand the comparison. I would more likely compare Pirate Queen to In My Life, because I enjoyed both shows for all the wrong reasons, spending most of my time laughing at how terrible they were.

Tarzan could have been much more successful if someone had been intelligent enough to NOT hire Bob Crowley as a director. tarzan is entertaining, whether you think it is good or bad. Pirate Queen was purely tedious..... and poor Linda Balgord was forced to spend three hours shrieking.
PIRATE QUEEN. PERIOD.
It would make more sense to compare Pirate Queen to Lestat than to put it up against Tarzan.

The reason I ask this is because I saw both of those shows on a school NY trip in April, and we all agreed they both were awful, but we were split on what was the better (worse) show.
Even though I was tired of both shows by the second act, I personally thought Pirate Queen was better, mainly because of the dancing and scattered energy throughout the show. That, and it lacked Phil Collins, which is always a plus :).

Oh, and Josh Strickland sounds like a woman, I'm sorry. I sat towards the back, and seriously couldn't tell if it was Tarzan or his mother who was singing half the time... I thought Tarzan was supposed to be the definitive man, not wishy-washy gendered.
Thom Miller should've gotten the role. (he was the understudy for a while, and an acquaintance of mine)

I'm sorry.
ETA: Actually, I don't mean that 100%. I haven't seen the shows; I was going by the general consensus of what people on BWW thought.
urgh well i didn't fall asleep during Tarzan

I've never seen a Thom Miller on the cast list for the Broadway production.
Why is it so hard to accept that they went with a lean Tarzan and not a muscle god?

Really? I think he was understudy for the first showings.
I know at least he was incredibly close to making the part.
And it didn't have to be a herculean Tarzan, I just didn't want to have to question the gender of him every time he sang :/
I made it all the way through Tarzan - I left PQ after the first act it was so bad.
Hey, if nothing else, the opening of Tarzan IS pretty spectacular - and it had Schuler Hensely which automatically makes it a little less than awful.
Are you kidding jason? Yes the opening of Tarzan was amazing, I loved it. However, Shuler (keep in mind that I love him in general) was GOD AWFUL in that role. He was so wrong for it.

Rob Evan as Kerchek!!
How in the HELL could Tarzan be better than Pirate Queen? I love Pirate Queen and not as a "guilty pleasure". It was simply a really good show with beautiful music. Tarzan was exciting in the beginning but unfortunately, it quickly ran out and the rest of the show just went from awkward to weak to just idiotic.
The only reason I can see why people who don't like either would choose Tarzan is simply because they need bright colors and shiny things to keep their attention.
Or, maybe they really didn't like The Pirate Queen.
Personally, I wouldn't pick either.

No, I saw one of the first Broadway previews and he wasn't in the cast. The original understudies on Broadway, and until last winter, were Josh Kibak and Kevin Massey. He may have come close, but certaily wasn't there. At the final press conference before casting was anounced, 'tarzan' was sung by Strickland and Kobak.

"Robert Even as Kerchek"
I personally thought he was the worst when I saw it.
He sounded like an over dramatic voice actor

Damn, I must've been lied to.

The only men to play, or undrestudy, the totle role in Tarzan on Broadway have been Josh Strickland, Joshua Kobak, Kevin Massey, and Nicholas Rodriguez.
Rob Evan was spot on a great Kerchak from Day One. kerchak IS a caricature in many ways and larger than life... and domainating and big.. and, shocking, very conflicted about the choices he makes!

Like I said, I sat towards the back. To me it looked like he just had an unenergetic aura with an over-dramatic voice.
Every time he spoke I kept thinking to myself "my god, just shut up"
bjh -- both shows completely sucked - two of the worst shows I've seen -- but yeah, I have to admit I liked Tarzan better than Pirate Queen. Part of it may have to do with expectation - I expected PQ to blow me away and all it did was blow. With Tarzan, I didn't expect much and got what I expected.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and bet that you're saying they were stolen from Les Mis? Um? It was kind of written by the same guys, so they kind of can't steal their own material?
Pirate Queen was my favorite show. (oooo...is this the part where I get shot?) I loved it. The cast was incredible, the sets were fantastic, the lighting was to die for, and I adored the score. People were looking for perfection. *News flash* there's no such thing as perfection. But the show was FAR from being as horrible as everyone says it is. Far from it.
*end rant*
On that note, I think PQ was much better than Tarzan.
and now I'll just sit here and wait for someone to attack me. *gets popcorn ready*

Technically it's "legal", but that would make them boring and lazy songwriters.
