While I can understand your perspective, maybe you could choose to look at the situation another way -

If someone is willing to send a donation to a good cause like bc/efa, you're doing a great service by sending back a cast signed playbill. I'm not saying go out of your way but it seems like a win all around. One less person hounding actors at the door and a donation going to a good organization."

I’m more than happy to help organize the signings for the Broadway Cares campaigns. The reality is that very, very few of the random requests we get actually include a donation for Broadway Cares.

Last time I checked paying for a Broadway ticket and expressing the disappointment that a trip has been canceled isn’t “entitled.” I also can’t believe you’re hoping that Broadway patrons are unemployed. That means the real death of Broadway. If ppl have no money they cant go to the theater.

This thread is about the stage door, so that is what Robbie was referring to. And purchasing a ticket means you are entitled to a performance, absolutely nothing more.

If you know these will come anyway, why don't you take a stack of Playbills, ask for the cast to go signing at their leisure and then you will have them ready to go by the time the envelopes come, instead of going around everyone everytime a request come throug (even though you, the actors or the production own these people nothing)

That's actually how it USED to be done. No clue anymore. But around 2006 it was often a feature in Broadway.com BTS videos of actors getting a big box of Playbills to sign and the box would make its way around to all the actors. I actually sent a fan letter at the time to the cast of Phantom after I'd seen it as my first show on Broadway and requested.one and a few weeks later I got a Playbill signed by the entire cast... Maybe that culture has changed in 15 years, but it was common place here & on Witches of Oz (back when it was thing...)
