In response to me2, it's not an original musical. It's at least twice removed from originality. It's yet another stage realization of a book that fails to live up to its source material. (I'm neither a lover nor a hater, but lean toward dislike. The book was better.)
That being said, it's great that something is succeeding on Broadway like that, and bringing in revenue.
