BROADWAY NEEDS THIS KID.

Very good!
I also really like the one Andrew Keenan Bolger posted on his blog awhile back.

Some mistakes---but what a voice.
The best????
Hmmmm... I saw Jennifer Holiday...I don't think she has to worry.
Broadway needs this kid... really?
Can he act? Can he interpret a song on his own instead of mimicking anothers phrasing and inflections? Is he famous enough to sell tickets?
The Von Smith phenomenon happened a couple years ago right? His fifteen minutes are up already.

Really, thats the best?
Can you do any better, Rosscoe?

I think this is the best!!
This has nothing to do with if I have the talent to sing that song or not. In my view that was far from the best version of that song I have heard. Simple as that!
Fair enough!
:)
Im sorry I was so snippy, Im kind of tired
Well... if Von Smith is the best he is a shoe-in for Effie in the Broadway Revival of DREAMGIRLS!
Rosscoe and I can sit together on Opening Night humbled by Von Smith's talent.
I'm in BFB! :))
Annas, you are allowed to be snippy....:))
No no no no... This IS the best!

I never thought I'd hear a good white male performance of anything in Dreamgirls...wrong!
Von's range is really impressive, but some of his riffs are just... a bit *much*, in my opinion.
Let's face facts. The best performance of "And I Am Telling You" was in the movie "Camp." :)
oh my lord. camp. besides robin and dequina, does anyone know whatever happened to those kids?

Frankly, his voice is annoying...I listened to his other stuff...and could barely get through it.

Yea, I'm not a huge fan. He uses a lot of falsetto which is probably not good, and he goes very nasal.
The closest thing I think we could ever have to a white Effie, is Shoshana Bean. (Not that I like her, but she does have soul)
Now, ya wanna talk the best, find a clip of Sharon Brown singing it. She can belt.
By Far the best!

One of my favorites.

I worked with this kid...
He sang AIATY at a benefit. He was the only white person singing the entire evening, and I couldn't help but think, "Is he making fun of the way Black people sing?"
It was very uncomfortable.
Haven't we done this type of thread before, TO DEATH, in the past?
He is singing through his nose and overdoing. Not really all that great.
oh Von. So over him. He is kind of a tool.

I thought this the last time he was foisted upon us; he should have owned it totally and sang "you're the best man." I think I would have bought it then.
It is very hard for a little white boy to sing this song without irony or a wink. Homeboy is just creepy.
PS - I submitted a video of me singing this for a contest when the movie came out on dvd. I didn't win the big cash prize, but I got an honorable mention and a free dvd! I sang the lyrics as written, thank you very much.

Oh God... Von Smith. Kid drives me nuts... Did anyone watch his performance on The View? His ridiculous riffs were rivaling Jennifer Holliday's when she performed with Jennifer Hudson at that award show last year...
"See I'm the best man you'll ever know" Come on, you don't have to change the lyric! We all know he is actually the best man you'll ever know. You're not fooling anyone, silly!

I would LOVE a copy of it.
Can you PM it to me, Phyl?
