Many a Christmas morning I got under the tree the latest Original Cast Album LP from my Mom of the most recent Broadway musical hit from Music Man to Mame. After that I bought my own. Each record a treasured memory, Then CDs came along and replaced some of those LPs with them. Now we hear the death knell for CDs. Every show is now on the internet , It just isn't the same. I like something tangible to see and feel besides hear. No. I won't throw mine out. Never!

I’m in the same boat - streaming and digital just isn’t the same as the beautiful packaging of physical media. My boyfriend and his friends constantly laugh because I have a medium sized DVD collection that I still add titles to every now and then.

Same goes for vinyl, but I guess that has been making a comeback the last few years.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

I used to think the same way, but have gotten over it....when i started thinking about my carbon footprint and needing to reduce it. Recycling is a lie....at least for plastic, so i try to avoid purchasing it at all.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I have so many cast recordings on cd and I don’t know what to do with them. Part of me doesn’t want to get rid of them because they have great books and beautiful artwork, however I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve actually listened to a cast recording on cd, instead of listening to it on my iPhone/iPod or on my computer.

I've saved every LP and CD. The cassettes found away of destroying themselves.

I've been whittling down my CD and DVD/Blu-Ray collection for some time. I'm also working on replacing some of my old DVD movies with their Blu-Ray counterpart when available. The movies are easier to part with but the CDs are more difficult. My plan is to just keep the essentials, Sondheim, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, Kander & Ebb, Webber and a few additional favorites. So far anything that doesn't fit on the one shelf is in storage bins under my bed. I still haven't been able to actually part with them. It's so silly. I've kept digital copies of everything but as you've all said it's not the same as having the CD. And sometimes even when I am listening to the album on my phone I'll still pull the CD down from the shelf and flip through the book, so it's a lot of difficult decision making on what to keep and what to eventually part with.

I have a 10 year rule for clothes (and only because I have an enormous amount of closet space). I make exceptions for things that have special meaning to me. (As relevant here, I was about to throw out an old worn out tux with ridiculous wide lapels.When I checked the pockets, I found my ticket stub from my first Tonys. So it hangs still in my closet.) I tossed CDs without looking back. (If you want the written material/art work, pull it out and toss the rest.) I confess I held onto a dozen or so LPs, all obscure (and none theatre-related) that are like that tux to me. If you have the room to keep them, and a housekeeper to dust them, I think folks should do what they want.
