To All New BWW members (wicked fans in particular)

To all new BWW members, here's the basic BWW lowdown on the subject of the show Wicked:
As a shizkid, you will get some bad rap around here.
When the show's popularity picked up, the obsession level on this board was overwhelming and a lot of other posters became extremely annoyed at the constant plugging. Every day, there would be ten new threads about the show and/or it's actors, most of them being about the exact same topic. During the Tony nomination period, and after Avenue Q won, a lot of shizkids became bitter and started posting really nasty threads that insulted others very strongly.
Now this board can be a lot of fun and a real education too, but out of courtesy, please make sure that you use the search option before you create a new thread on the topic. There are other shizkids on this board as well, and perhaps it is better that you PM a few of them with your questions before you start posting.

Just wondering (and I'm not a, er... "shizkid," I'm just curious about what I've seen while lurking about), does that mean that people keep their... uh, "snarky" comments about Menzel/Wicked quiet if it's actually in a thread that HASN'T been posted a billion times?

It's hard to say, because it's rarely happened where people haven't started a thread that's been discussed 80 million other times. (Like, do we NEED 4 threads a day on when Idina's leaving and who's replacing her?)

But, as a more recent case in point - the person who started the first thread on Taye/Idina's death threats didn't get flamed for starting it.

But the 8 (seriously, 8 - I counted) threads on the exact same topic got flamed though.

Personally I think some of these threads are started to get everyone riled up and to see how many people look at their post. Take the "Idina Crack Note" yesterday. The person who started the thread was no where to be seen after that.

I am glad we have so many postings about Wicked and BRKLYN. I forget everyday just how wonderful Idina, or Kristin, or Eden is. I forget everyday that Wicked and Brooklyn are the best shows ever. I ask inane questions everyday like "Doesn't eden look like Idina?""Who should the Elphaba after next be?" etc. I, for one, am glad that I can find th answers to these questions and so many more every day.

Thank you, Ma. I forget too - luckily, because of BWW, I can get flogged with it every 10 minutes. (On a slow day.)

It's not a matter of "If you don't like it, don't click it." It's also just common courtesy to other people around and really, to that person who starts the thread as well. First, there's no need to take up so much bandwidth with redundant questions and answers and arguments. I HATE it when this site goes down, and I'm sure part of it has to do with the high activity from these threads.

Also, if every second thread has to do with a something that's already been asked, it clutters up the main board and it's tedious to sift through all of that to find the few threads that are of interest. ("Few", because likely all the interesting threads have been pushed to the second or third page because 20 "new" Wicklynite threads have been started.)

Finally, it doesn't kill someone to bump a thread that has already been started on the same topic and just be like, "Is there an update on this?" Less threads to manage. Less redundancy to sift through. Less bandwidth taken up. Better responses, because likely your question's already been answered, and if not, by reviving an existing thread, you're still able to get up-to-date information.

Just common courtesy and common sense. Believe it or not, I don't hate Wicked. In fact, I find many redeeming qualities in it, though it's FAR from perfect. The point is that Wicked fans get a bad rap because of the few bad apples - er, shizkids - who lack the ability to *read thread titles* and see if their question's already been discussed.

It does seem odd at how many people on this board HATE "Wicked" or have something negative to say about Idina Menzel, or the show. It seems that the more popular something gets, or how "mainstream" it becomes, all the more reason to have it and go agaisnt the grain. If you can't stand reading posts about the show, just don't click on a topic that has something to do with the cast/crew or show. I just joined this site, and it seems really great and informative. However, it gets annoying to read all of these negative posts. When I see posts about shows I don't care for, I just leave them alone, rather then waste my time just to say, "THAT SHOW SUCKS AND THE ACTORS SUCK AND NOW I'LL SAY SOMETHING REALLY SARCASTIC AND WHAT I THINK IS WITTY..." Just leave it alone!
