Posted: 5/26/10 at 1:07amNot sure exactly who he is, but I'm sure the show will do very well on tour. Does anyone know if they marketed the DVD version during the movie?

Like I said we are justt going to have to be patient. "Chess in Concert" came out on DVD a year after it was filmed. "Shrek" was supposedly filmed in October.

He looks like more of a Shrek than a Farquaad.

Posted: 5/26/10 at 9:14amSo just because Chris Sieber played it, it should always be played by a 6'2" actor? Hmmm, maybe he booked the role because he was funny and talented and the casting people thought he was the best one for the role? Most of us want non-traditional casting and casting based on talent than looks. And now we have an example and you say you don't think he looks right for the role. Awesome! You just gave more credibility to the casting directors/directors who can't think out of the box and cast boring bland pretty people in musicals.

Posted: 5/26/10 at 9:52amHOUFlip04, I think you're overreacting a bit. ClumsyDude simply made a statement about how he thought Buonopane looked like he would fit into one role better than another (a statement that I happen to agree with). He never said that he thought Buonopane was wrong for the role, or that he found Buonopane to be untalented, or that he was upset that they were casting someone who doesn't look like Christopher Sieber. He was just expressing his opinion, not striking down the entire casting choice.

What mystifies me is the exclamation mark in the title of this thread.
It implies that this (!) is exciting news!
I'm sure he'll do a good job, but who, other than Mr. Buonopane's friends and family are meant to be excited by this revelation? Has he developed a following?
I wish the lad well.

Posted: 5/26/10 at 2:31pmI'm excited for him! I saw him as Coneybear and Barfee in Spelling Bee on Broadway, and he's got awesome comedic timing, and he's VERY talented and fun to watch.

Posted: 7/26/10 at 12:20amTodd is NO LONGER playing Lord Farquaad. He was replaced by David Vaughn, I was at the opening in Chicago tonight. FYI

The Chicago Tribune review for the show confirms Bunopane no longer being involved:
"The marquee names are gone from this show. And, at times, they're missed, especially Christopher Sieber's hilarious original Lord Farquaad, although David F. M. Vaughn's take is very amusing (in an eleventh-hour casting change, Vaughn, initially an understudy, was only given the role on Saturday night)..."

Posted: 7/26/10 at 11:35amFrom what I hear, from friends on the tour, Todd thinks he is Nathan Lane or Cher. Too many outrageous demands and called in sick before opening. His understudy wowed the producers. So looks like Dr. Weinerslave is back on the unemployment line. I guess you still have to become a somebody before you can act like one.

Posted: 7/26/10 at 11:41amSaw the show last week and the Tribune review is pretty fair, though maybe a little kinder than I would have stated. The tour production may be scaled down, but it is a stronger show than its Broadway predecessor. Especially the dragon. Better song and better staging remove the vapid spectacle and restore character to the character. I like some of the songs and the cast was wonderful, but the show still leaves me cold and I maybe laughed once. Love the film, but as a musical, it just doesn't work for me. Th most intriguing aspects of the show is the way it will occasionally flesh out more of the characters for us than in the film as in Big Bright Beautiful World, I Know It's Today and The Ballad of Farquaad, but they are too few and far between. The show loses me when it tries too hard to recreate the film.
