Well if he acted in GOOD shows...then he wouldn't need a "break" or "luck"...he'd just need his talent and some energy. Picking shows like Dracula and Dr. Doolittle which are PATHETIC adaptations of stories which really do NOT belong on stage is the fault of the producers/writers/directors/actors and I have no sympathy for him. There's pleanty of work out there, he just needs to pick the right stuff.

I too feel really bad. He is very talented and he deserves to be in a good show.

Please, 442namffug I'm sure he didn't think, "Wow, this is really bad and probably going to fail miserably. Sign me up!" Everyone makes bad decisions that seem to make sense at the time, and when your job is as variable as an actor's job clearly is, it's probably even easier to fall into this.

He's a talented guy. I hope he finds his way into a good show soon.

"There's pleanty of work out there, he just needs to pick the right stuff."

I'm not sure I've ever heard the existence of a New York actor expressed in these terms.

There's pleanty of work out there, he just needs to pick the right stuff.

Do you really think it's that simple? Do you think he's being deluged with offers, and merely has to pick the best among them? The percentage of performers with the luxury of picking and choosing that way is remarkably small. He's a known quantity and a very talented man, but not a huge name.

I partially blame him, but really meant to blame the producers more.

Anyone (behind the scenes, onstage, or in the audience..or on BWW.com) who thinks DOCTOR FREAKING DOOLITTLE is a good idea for an interesting and entertaining piece of theatre must have a severe mental problem.

I, still, have no sympathy. However, I agree the man is talented and hope he is booked in some better quality productions soon.

Well, I think it's a fantastic idea. They just should have stuck with the script as it was in London and not changed it. I mean, you almost have to wonder how they could mess up a show so badly that features an academy award winning song and a score with "Talk to the Animals", "Beautiful Things", "When I Look In Your Eyes", "Like Animals", "Where Are the Words" and "Something in Your Smile"... all gems.

Considering how jobs are few and far between for actors and for the rest of the public in general, 442namffug, I hope no one cuts you any slack when you lose a job.

People just take a job and hope for the best.

I am not in the entertainment industry, but I certainly didn't take my last job hoping that I'd be laid off a year later. And I certainly didn't have a gazillion offers in the 6 figures to choose from either.

if mr hewitt was smart he could parlay this bad luck into something not so bad, just by having a payout clause in his contract so he'll be paid for the duration even if the show closes.... but seriously i do feel bad for him, although the urinetown tour did reasonably wel, and he was in that

Wicked talented.

And he is such a nice person.

He deserves what his heart desires.

He is VERY talented. Most of the reviews say he saved the show from being a waste of time.

musicalsFAN....first of all, you are WAY out of line for wishing anything so horrible upon anyone--especially me.

What you said was not even close to being apropos to this situation. Never wish something so horrible upon anybody.

ESPECIALLY since I never said I HOPED Hewitt never got a job. I never said I HOPED no one would hire him. I never said I HOPED that he is forever out of work. I never called him un-talented and I certainly never offended you. All I said is that theatre these days (using Dracula and Dr. Doolittle as EXAMPLES) is absolute trash.

Rot in hell.

P.S. (or maybe P.M.S.)........

This is a Broadway and Theatre Message Board and an open forum for all opinions. For any of you to try to outright offend me or gang up and call my OPINIONS wrong is completely hypocritical and you do NOT belong on this board.

Your opinons and my opinions may be different, but you have no right to wish any hatred upon me, twist my words, or try to belittle my voice.

Wow, maybe you should take a step back. People disagreed with what they saw as your unfair condeming of Tom Hewitt (an actor with not limitless choices for roles) for being in bad shows (and if it was the bad shows you were condemning, that appears to have been unclear to a number of people, and also isn't really the topic of this thread), and some people used strong rhetoric (which I notice you using as well) to do so. I don't think anyone told you that you must like Tom Hewitt or the shows he is in, or that you must stop having an opinion. At the same time, everyone else gets to have opinions, too (and some of them are rude, and that's unfortunate but the way life goes).

People posting here don't actually know you. I doubt anyone really wishes you would lose your job and get no sympathy, but in the end, they're just words on a messageboard.

What is this?????? IdiotsWorld.com or something???

"I don't think anyone told you that you must like Tom Hewitt or the shows he is in"

I NEVER SAID ANYONE DID......However, unless you are blind, someone wished that, because I think that Dr. Doolittle is a bad show and that it should never have been produced, I automatically should be denied the right to get a job or work in the future.

Do you think that is appropriate? Do you think that is reasonable? Do you think that has ANYTHING to do with this thread whatsoever??

No. Not at all. It was rude and unnecessary. I have no problem with anyone else's opinions and I never said I did, so cleary, Shawk, you are making things up or hallucinating.

However, when someone says something rude and slanderous, I will call them out on it and make sure it doesn't happen again.
