Many people consider this the definitive GYPSY production, no doubt that Patti is the front-runner this year. Prince might pull an upset though.
And to whoever said that Patti wasn't the same year than Ebersole: GREY GARDENS opened off-Broadway the same seasson that SWEENEY TODD and COLOR PURPLE opened on Broadway, the Tony race was hard to predict since Ebersole swept all the awards leading up to the Tony which usually are an indicator of the winner.

Yeah, the Best Actress thing is ridiculous. LuPone is going to win that award.
South Pacific is going to be nominated for, and probably win, Best Lighting Design. I don't see how that was left off your list. Ditto Best Sound.

Would the projections for "Sunday" be considered part of the set design or lighting design or neither? Is there any way for them to be rightfully rewarded?

"Patti is an absolute lock this year."
Remember when people said that about Raul last year,
Politics, people, politcs, the "likable" factor.
I personally thought Faith was stretching and showing a new different side, while I came out of the womb knowing Patti could play Rose, but working with her is a different story.

Thanks, Curtain. I do think, though, that Best Actress is going to be a very close race between Faith and Patti.*
I think the closest thing to a lock we'll have this year is Benanti for GYPSY, and even she could be toppled, as said by another poster, by Olga Merediz, who could win thanks to sentimentality.
Concerning the Predictions Site: Nicely done (although the pictures could be better selected and of a higher quality).
I do disagree with your prediction that CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF will be nominated for Best Set Design; the critics were pretty much in agreement that the set and costumes were pretty ugly.
*Sorry, Jenna Russell.

"Do we really think that Grease will get a nom.?"
Yes, as was discussed earlier in the thread, there are only four eligible musical revivals this season, so it will likely be nominated by default. Several years ago, they ruled that when possible, they had to fill out the category, even if they thought there weren't enough worthy nominees. This was why The Threepenny Opera was nominated that one year.

In 06, there weren't enough revivals to fill out the category. So it was just SWEET CHARITY, LA CAGE, and PACIFIC OVERTURES. So the category isn't always filled out.

Right. Also in 2002, there were only 2 nominees (Into the Woods bested Oklahoma that year). This year, with four nominees, they will fill the category, despite how much they may want to leave one show off.

I think that Jenny Powers was absolutely brilliant in "Grease" and truly deserves a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She was the best part about the show by far! Too bad that will never happen.

Granted Patti LuPone is wonderful in Gypsy. I would like to see an upset. I love when there are upsets at awards time. It makes the show more interesting, than knowing who is going to win. It would be hilarious (and great) if Xanadu steals all the awards! I know I am living in a fantasy world. But imagine the threads the next day!!!!
