This was actually one of the few Tony Awards where I thought everyone got what they deserved. I would have screamed with joy if Stephanie won but I was thrilled that Idina was the recipient.

I agree. I enjoyed this year's show a lot more than last year's. I liked that there wasn't one show that just sweeped all the awards. Plus, there were quite a few surprises. Were there any last year?

I have to say I loved every single woman in the category this year. I was hoping for a tie between Stephanie and Tonya.
I also loved Donna and Kristin.
If i had to pick though with my heart i was rooting for Stephanie.

Donna
Kristin
Tonya
Idina
Stephanie

...as much as in my heart I wanted Stephanie to win, I'd absolutely have picked Donna in the front and then the rest in that order. In any other year I'd have wanted Stephanie hands down.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

to some of you: no no no no no
to some of you: yes yes yes yes

Tonya Pinkins gave theeeeee best performance Broadway has seen in years. Not an exaggeration. And to think that the flying green prune whooped her 39-year-old divorcee booty? sickening.

The medallion was Tonya's.
She should be looking at it, next to her bed right now.
But Idina had to. . . fly...

Tonya deserved that.
All disrespect to Idina.

Idina is so amazing as an actress every night, and most nights she is one of the best singers to ever be on stage. I definitely think either she or Kristin deserved the Tony. I think it depends nightly as to which one, but from what I've heard, most of the time it's Idina.

I have to agree - I think Idina deserved the award outright. She's fantastic in that role, and she usually hits it out of the park night after night. Saw Donna - she was very good, and I have nothing but respect for Ms. Pinkins - Idina was great. Glad to see so much talent in the race this year.

I think the bottom line is that any one of these women could have EASILY walked away with the award which is so different of the past two years or so where it was almost guaranteed, a race bewtween two people if you were lucky, who would win. I think everyone who was nominated could have won and showuld have won for some reason or another. From what I saw of Tonya on the telecast I could just see how amazing she would have been in the show, I saw Donna and LOVED her, and Kristen was great, Idina was out when I saw it, and Stephanie seems like she is doing a great job. It really was a race, but if I HAD to pick my vote would have been for Donna or Tonya

Actually I thought Kristin should have been supporting/featured as well instead of lead. I thought they might try and do that to get both to win.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I was hoping both Kristin & Idina would win - how cool would have that been! - Each one carries that show basically on a balance but it's Kristin that really brings the spirit & heart to "Wicked' - Nevertheless, they are pretty much equals & make the show what it is - Absolutely AmaZinG!!!
So, obviously, I was psyched when Idina won but Kristin shoulda got it also.

Glad to see you're such a mature person by giving someone, though they not be up to your obviously important expectations on winning, your utter lack of disrespect. It's a beautiful thing.

Glinda is not a featured/supporting role: it may be Elphaba's story, but Glinda has almost as much stage time, and she's telling the story. While I wish they both could've won, and Elphaba had to be the leading role if one was a featured role, I think the decision was right.

You know who deserves a Tony? STEPHEN SCHWARTZ!

That being said my ideal situation would have been a tie between Kristin and Idina mainly because neither wanted to see the other lose (if you couldn't tell from watching and Idina's speech...)

Knowing that would happen I wanted Idina to win over Kristin ONLY ONLY ONLY because Kristin's already got one and Idina def. deserves to have one!

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

When I saw the Tonys, I was hoping for a win for Donna - because she is so funny in Wonderful town and such a consumate actress. But now that I've had a chance to see Caroline or Change, I know that it most definitely should have gone to Tonya Pinkins - she is unbelievably wonderful in this show. If you only see one show this year - see Caroline or Change - you won't regret it.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

I think Tonya Pinkins is very gifted, very hardworking...but whether you like it or not...you are nominated for Best Actress IN IN IN...a MUSICAL.....learn to sing, and control your voice. She was SCREAMING...if she had better technique she's know how to "breakdown" onstage without hurting herself.
I love Kristin Chenoweth and she is brilliant in WICKED but she didn't need a Tony to validate that.
Donna Murphy....she's got enough Tony's as well, and while I can get over how incredible and gifted and HYSTERICAL she is in this show...she didn't deserve the win.
Stephanie D'Abruzzo ....wonderful. Great voice, great actress...it's just not her time. Hopefully she'll drop the puppet and do another show and then be rewarded.
When it all comes down to it , Idina was the Adrien Brody (ahhhh) of the category. She worked her ass off, she was brilliant..everyone was talking about her and mesmorized and she finally got what she deserved. Her Tony performance was a little...ehh...but I attribute that to nerves. But you know what? I dont know her...all I know is she is extraordinary as Elphaba. And Im not on Broadway (yet), and I don't HAVE a Tony (yet) so who the hell am I to judge??
Even though I just did :)

I think all 5 of them really deserved it. I think Tonya should of won. She gave such a moving and powerful performance. I'm happy that Idina won. Besides Stephanie, she was the only one who didnt already have a Tony.

I haven't seen any of the actresses besides Idina and Kristin since I haven't seen any of the other shows yet, so I can't really say. All I know is I was VERY impressed with Idina's performance. I've seen her twice, and being close to the stage last month, I was so impressed with her acting AND her amazing singing. Kristin was excellent too. I believe they both compliment each other's performance.

Donna was robbed.

But then again, she didn't exactly have impeciable attendance at performances. I think ultimately Tonya deserved it because she was carrying her musical. Kristin and Idina had each other.

I don't get you, Brodybaby. On the one hand you criticize Tonya Pinkins for having a hoarse upper register, and then you say Idina "screamer" Menzel should have won? Even supporters of Menzel say she's inconsistent on those high notes in "Defying Gravity."

I understand the need to rationalize why your favorite should win, though. :)

And little_sally, Tonya Pinkins was robbed. Period.
