They only has lyrics and score. But some years it would be good, liek the Wicked and Avenue Q year I think Wicked deserved Music and Q deserved lyrics and I kind think Wicked for score. But I haven't even heard Caroline, or Change

blaxx, serious or no? I can't tell on the boards if ppl like or hate wicked.
Sometimes its just too easy.
Wicked deserves to win every award possibleee cuz it is the best show everrr made!!! All the Tonys in the world aren't enough for it!!!
In all seriousness, I think they should have an award for best song of the year.

Totally agree with Best Song. That would be great.
Agreed with best song.
I suggested it in another thread a couple of months back in a similar thread and the majority seemed to be against it but I still think it's a good idea.

I'm not in love with Wicked. I just find the music good and the lyrics awkward sometimes. I never said Avenue Q didn't deserve best musical, I think it did. Just it's score isn't the greatest. Please don't butcher me for spelling. :)
Best Song
Best Ensemble
They should split the plays into Best Play and Best Play Production, so tripe like War Horse doesn't take home an achievement for script.
bjh - my fear with best ensemble is a musical like catch me would win it every year. *not that it's the most deserving, but the ensemble is a huge part of the show and is in almost every number.
I honestly doubt that would happen. There are so many shows that are ensemble shows through and through. Things like A Chorus Line, Spelling Bee, etc. This year, it would probably go to The Book of Mormon, but not because of the sweep. Even the smallest bit roles in that show are super funny, and every cast member does an amazing job with the joke delivery. I think it would be a VERY tough category for plays, however. There are so many strong ensemble based shows. This year alone I could see The Normal Heart, War Horse, Motherf**ker with the Hat, Jerusalem, The Merchant of Venice, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Good People all being strong contenders.
You may be right, I mean the only way to tell would be if they made the category. :)
I don't even know how it would be awarded for plays. Interesting idea, nonetheless.
In seasons like this, best ensemble makes sense, but I feel like more often than not, it would get redundant. Like Gods of Carnage, where the entire cast would be nominated for best lead and featured, as well as best ensemble. I'd like the category more if it were strictly musicals, and were actually rewarding the chorus, and not just doubling nominations for the leads.
I mean, the Drama Desks do it in a way where the members of the casts who win Best Ensemble cannot be nominated in individual acting categories. In 2009, I wouldn't have nominated God of Carnage for Best Ensemble (or if I had, I wouldn't have made them eligible in acting categories. If only... then Janet McTeer could have won. Sigh.) I would have nominated The Norman Conquests, Exit the King, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, and either Desire Under the Elms or Irena's Vow.

* Best Replacement should be permanent.
* Best Theatrical Event should be permanent.
* The Oscars have Best New Song, so to address a pressing concern with revisals (witness Grand Hotel, which was almost entirely new material all the way around compared to At the Grand), I'd like to see "Best New Song in a Revival" at least once.
* I think that there should be some kind of special achievement award for the one performer (and there always is one) who walks away with the best notices in an acknowledged flop, with the criteria being a minimum number of reviews mentioning how good the person was in the P.O.S. show. No clue what you'd call it, but I think they should be recognized by more than critics.

Best Martyr?
chewy's is nicer wording. "Best Martyr" sounds like something they've handed out at the Coliseum at lion-feeding time. That said, the Coliseum bit is pretty much an effective metaphor for the position the Tonys hold (or used to hold anyway)...
