Interesting. By all means I love Sierra by why is she performing?

The cast of the Tony-nominated Best Musical Passing Strange will perform "Keys" — the call-and-response portion of the new musical at the Belasco Theatre that features its Tony-nominated creator and star, Stew, singing, "It's alright . . ." — on the 62nd Annual Tony Awards telecast June 15.

Playbill.com has also learned that In the Heights, which has been nominated for 13 Tonys — the most of any show of the season — will perform Lin-Manuel Miranda's "96,000," a joyous song about the hope of a lottery windfall.

Cry-Baby, also nominated for Best Musical, will perform "A Little Upset." That David Javerbaum-Adam Schlesinger song features Cry-Baby (James Snyder), Dupree (Chester Gregory II), Allison (Elizabeth Stanley) and the ensemble.



Xanadu, the new musical at the Helen Hayes Theatre based on the film of the same name, will perform Jeff Lynne's "Don't Walk Away," which features Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Mary Testa, Jackie Hoffman and the Muses.

TV watchers can also expect performances from Best Revival of a Musical nominees Gypsy, Grease, South Pacific and Sunday in the Park with George. Expect a few other surprises, including Little Mermaid's Sierra Boggess, who will perform that musical's "Part of Your World," according to the Mermaid website.

As previously announced, the 2008 Tony Awards will also include performances from the casts of Rent and The Lion King.

The original principal cast of Jonathan Larson's Rent will join the show's current company to celebrate the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical's lengthy run, which ends Sept. 7 at the Nederlander Theatre.

The current company of the Tony-winning musical The Lion King will also perform on the Tony telecast to celebrate the show's 10th anniversary; in fact, the Disney musical will open the telecast with "Circle of Life."

Stage and screen star Whoopi Goldberg will host the 62nd Annual Tony Awards, which will be presented June 15. CBS-TV will broadcast the event live from Radio City Music Hall, 8-11 PM ET. (Red-carpet arrivals begin at 6 PM).

Presenters for the program currently include Gabriel Byrne, Julie Chen, Harry Connick, Jr., Laurence Fishburne, Mandy Patinkin, David Hyde Pierce, Lily Tomlin, John Waters, Alec Baldwin, Kristin Chenoweth, Glenn Close, Richard Griffiths, Laura Linney, John Lithgow, Liza Minnelli, Mary-Louise Parker, Daniel Radcliffe, Brooke Shields and Marisa Tomei.

The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. CBS has broadcast the annual event since 1978.

I'm excited. I wish Little Mermaid had been up for Best Musical instead of Cry-Baby so their performance could have been justified.

Sierra has a wonderful voice. Glad she is singing "Part of Your World". She actually gave me goosebumps when I saw her sing it here During the show's Denver run.

Weird, the article title contains "Move On" in it's headline list of song titles, but the piece itself does not address what song "Sunday" is performing.

Do they know and forgot to mention in the article after putting it in the title? Or is it there by mistake? Hmm.

I love that Xanadu's number is showcasing Cheyenne's talents, but he wasn't (unfortunately) nominated. Shouldn't they have picked a Kerry-centric song or possibly a medley?

Cry-Baby's choice is smart because that's the best showing of the show's amazing choreography, which is the only award they have a chance at getting.

I DO think that Xanadu's choice, though, probably fairs the best out of context of the show (other than Evil Woman). It's an amazing number and it's the kind of song that might make people sit up and say, "I want to see that!". God knows their awkward, dreadful, and embarrassing Thanksgiving parade performance did no such thing.

I wasn't happy neither with Xanadu's choice. I guess they opted to show more of Cheyenne than Kerry! The three nominated new musicals DEFINITELY picked their best songs in the show!

like I said in another thread.. at least I get to see Kyle Dean Massey in his Thalia Dress. bec. I dont think I will go back to Xanadu anymore.. NOPE! I dont watch shows MULTIPLE TIMES... twice is the max for me...in Xanadu's case... my friends want to see it, that's why I revisited (my #3) .... I dont lay all my eggs in one basket!

I think the Xanadu choice is stupid. I think a medley would have been good or maybe even the title track Xanadu?

I also disagree that 'Circle of Life' should be performed. I think it is just so that Whoopi can appear in it to get some laughs. I mean really - a lot of shows hit the 10 year mark.

I think I feel the same about Rent.

I would rather ACA or YF get to perform - shows that are currently in this year's season.

And let me just say I think the reason TLK is performing is due to the fact the strike cancelled there 10 year celebration.

URINETOWN did the same thing a few years ago. They performed "Run, Freedom, Run" to show Hunter Foster off after he hadn't been nominated. Not to mention that it was the URINETOWN's big show stopper, which I believe "Don't Walk Away" are "All Over The World" are in XANADU, and they happen to be Cheyenne's big numbers.

Kerry's acting is what her big draw is, and that only works in the context of the show. Kerry singing a song isn't going to make people go out and buy tickets. Cheyenne belting his gorgeous brains out will.

It was mentioned as a possibility in Michael Reidel's column. Regardless, I still don't think it should be performed - taking up time from other current shows - strike or no strike.

Complain to CBS. Maybe they'll seriously scrap airing the Tonys on television. Sucks for people who can't do Radio City.
