Not considering who will be nominated for Best Musical, what numbers do you think should be performance from each Musical this year?
XANADU
THE LITTLE MERMAID
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
PASSING STRANGE
IN THE HEIGHTS
A CATERED AFFAIR
CRY-BABY
GLORY DAYS
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
GREASE!
SOUTH PACIFIC
GYPSY
All I'll say for now is: I would love for the show to be opened with Stew walking out onto the stage and saying "Whazzup?"
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum

Xanadu should do the title number. It has the entire company, and is recognizable.
Mermaid has no shot at a nomination, but if it did, I imagine it would do "Under the Sea."
Young Frankenstein, if nominated, should do either "Transylvania Mania" or "Puttin on the Ritz." Considering how long "Ritz" is, I would say definitely "Transylvania Mania", especially if Chris Fitzgerald is nominated (as he should be.)
Passing Strange should do a medley, or just "Welcome to Amsterdam." I also wouldn't mind if he just came up and did the Pretzel Man speech...hehe.
In the Heights should either do the opening number or 96,000. I would prefer 96,000.
A Catered Affair should do a medley.
Cry-Baby, if nominated, should do the jailhouse number. Really anything as long as it shows off Ashford;'s choreography.
Glory Days- Generation Apathy.
Sunday should do "Sunday". It's too breathtaking not to do. However, I wonder if it is feasible to replicate their set with projections intact at the Tony's.
I imagine Grease will do "Summer Nights" or "Greased Lightning" ending with a chorus of "You're the One that I Want." They have to incorporate that song, considering.
South Pacific is tough. "Nothin' Like a Dame" gets my vote. (Either that or "Wash that Man..."
And it would be a crime to rob America of the chance to see Patti do "Rose's Turn" on national tv.

I'd love to see Xanadu to a medley of songs; if only to let Mary Testa belt out "Evil Woman". If she gets a nom, and I hope she does, I'd love to see her featured.

ANTON IS BACK!!!!!!
For Glory Days, I think a combination of "Right Here" and "Good Old Glory Type Days" would sell a bunch of tickets.

Wondering specifically about GYPSY - everytime it's been on Broadway the show, Rose and Louise have been nominated. (Though when Lansbury did it there wasn't a Tony yet for revivals so the show itself couldn't get a nomination.)
Does anyone know if Rose's Turn has been performed at the Tonys every time?

"Sunday should do "Sunday". It's too breathtaking not to do. However, I wonder if it is feasible to replicate their set with projections intact at the Tony's."
It might be. Otherwise, "Putting it Together" would be a good second option.

>Does anyone know if Rose's Turn has been performed at the Tonys every time?<
Lansbury did "Everything's Coming Up Roses" in 1975. Tyne Daly didn't perform.

XANADU - Xanadu, if not a medley like at the Thanksgiving Parade. Depends on who's nominated.
THE LITTLE MERMAID - Not getting nominated, but obviously "Under the Sea".
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN - Hopefully "Puttin' on the Ritz", since it's the most famous and "Transylvania Mania" sucks.
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE - Hopefully "Sunday", with a segue into "Move On" or something else to showcase Jenna.
GREASE! - Most likely "You're the One that I Want".
SOUTH PACIFIC - Probably a medley, seeing as there isn't one huge number for everyone.
GYPSY - I'd like to see "Together" AND the turn, but it'll probably just be one or the other.

Posted: 4/27/08 at 10:49ami love all of your choices for the numbers for best musical and best revival of a musical. i would love to see the broadway kids perform a medly too, they are so underappreicated. if someone reccommends the three billys of broadway to perform this year, it is a stupid idea because they will be performing next year at the tonys.
#18re: Tony Performances: What Numbers?
Posted: 4/27/08 at 5:25pmIf Mermaid somehow did get nominated, I would like to see more of a medley, even if it was just Part of Your World transitioning into Under the Sea. It is called The Little Mermaid after all, not Sebastian and Friends. (Wow, I sound bitter.)
#19re: Tony Performances: What Numbers?
Posted: 4/27/08 at 6:09pmI think that they are trying to get more then just the shows that are nomonated to perform. CBS is thinking that it would get more viewers.

This is what i'd like to see:
Xanadu: I'd like to see either a medley of I'm Alive, Evil Woman, and the finale, or just the Finale.
Passing Strange: I DON'T WANT A MEDLEY! PERIOD! How about just Welcome to amsterdam, with Stew saying WAAAZZZZ UP? in the beginning.
Little Mermaid: Medley, for sure, Begining with part of your World, seguing into Poor Unfortunate Souls, and finishing with Under the Sea.
Young Frankenstein: Roll in the Hay, as Christopher F. and Sutton F. will most likely be nominated. Otherwise, Puttin on the Ritz
Cry Baby: With Tongue and the Finale.
A Catered Affair: No clue, but i'd love to see either a medley, or Faith Prince's big number, or maybe even Harvey's number.
In the Heights: Obviously the prologue, or maybe 96000.
As for revivals, Sunday from Sunday, with Geroge beginning with the blank canvas monologue, and please, god, please, assemble a small reproduction of the set. I'd like to see something other than just rose's Turn, for it's done at EVERY Tony Awards for Gypsy. I'd actually like to see Let Me Entertain You, going into the fast forward sequence, then going into Broadway Broadway. Have a large curtain come down, perform the strip scene with Laura, then have the curtain come back up and have Patti perform the monologue before rose's turn, going into "Why did I do it". Or, if Boyd is nominated, do Together Wherever we go inplace of Broadway broadway.
South pacific: Some enchanted evening.

Would love a "Xanadu" medley, and would go nuts if "ITH" did
"96,000", but my guess is that they will go with "In The Heights"

If Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa both get nominated (fingers crossed), or heck even if they don't) they could do a funny introduction ala the ads and promos they have been doing. "Isn't this that awful 80's movie", and Tony Roberts could sort of bust in and introduce the song. And lord I hope Cheyenne wears those shorts, now that is a way to draw viewers to the Tony's
. America shouldn't be deprived of that or Patti Lupone singing "Rose's Turn".
