My sister was telling me there are "examples" of Tony Voters being homophobic in the past, (not against nominations, but actual winning) in their treatment of certain shows. So if Next Fall loses the best play Tony, does that mean Tony Voters are homophobic?

I think NEXT FALL sucks. Does that make me homophobic?

Yes, b/c no gay themed play has ever won and no gay actor has ever won either.
What examples in the past?
The only thing that it does prove, if Next Fall loses to Red, is that Tony Voters are Anti-American. imo.
No, they can't be anti-American b/c they dissed Enron.
Or maybe it would "prove" that RED is a better play? Maybe?
^ Those were 20 odd Tony nominators, not the 700 voters.

John Logan, the author of Red, is American. Born in Chicago, grew up in New Jersey. It's a British production of an American playwright's work.
Then maybe the voters would just be prejudiced against Female Directors? I mean, no woman has ever won best director, right?
If a woman can win the Oscar this year, then a woman should win best director.
Like Anna D. Shapiro (August Osage County), Julie Taymor (The Lion King) and Susan Stroman (The Producers)?

What if NEXT FALL loses but LA CAGE wins? Does that mean that the Tony committee is prejudiced against gays who aren't drag queens?

"It's a British production of an American playwright's work."
Exactly. Not to mention that Red is a play about an American artist, set in New York. Clearly voting for it shows bias against Americans... (sarcasm, if that somehow wasn't evident).
Aren't absolutes funsy?
I stand corrected. You've all convinced me, Next Fall isn't as good as Red. Thanks for letting me see the light. Go Red!
Glad to be of help.
But seriously, it is.
But seriously seriously, I don't think anyone is trying to convince you that RED is better than NEXT FALL, just trying to convince you that if NEXT FALL loses, it doesn't mean the Tony voters are homophobic, anti-American, or anything like that.

Garry Hynes also won the Tony for directing Beauty Queen of Leenane.
I only want to like what others tell me that I should like, so that when Red wins, I will be on the winning team. Public opinion says Red will win, so go Red! Actual merits are just too hard for me to understand! Aren't they irrelevent anyways, I mean, everyone wants to be on the winning team!
mybigsplash, are you directing your comments at me or just pontificating to no one in particular?
Whats pontificating? Go Red!
Well, they're obviously racist because Bombay Dreams didn't win a thing!

Voting bodies are only homophobic when Brokeback Mountain loses. And voting bodies are only whatever kind of phobic when they don't vote the way you want.

If Red loses, then Tony voters are Anti- culture, and good taste, and genius.
And Anti-Public opinion! (The worst phobia)
Is Ramin Setoodeh a Tony voter?
