Yes I absolutely agree my problem is not with Once its with its over aggressive producers, which if they weren't so aggressive it would be the second Lysistrata Jones of the season.
I just think we all need to agree Newsies and Once are no Next to Normal and Billy Elliot where both are A+ shows, instead both are Bs are missing that something that brings them to that next level, which is why we are arguing about which is better because clearly we will never come to a common consensus because to me whats missing from Once is graver than what is missing from Newsies and to you its the exact opposite

"I don't think Once would have made it to Broadway without aggressive producers. It's a tough sell."
It's the easiest sell. Pretentious "artiness" to make the critics rhapsodize, mush to draw in the public. All bases covered.
"A cult following"
The movie of Once had a cult following.
"So really, I can't blame the producers of Once for working the media,"
The media was in the palm of its hand from the get-go, and worked to sing its praises.
"Otherwise, no one would know what the show is."
A great many knew. The film won an Academy Award, and had an accompanying soundtrack.

Guys, I found this picture of AfterEight!
That's considered AfterEight's "happy" face.
In my head, most of the time he's Jeff Dunham's Walter puppet, but there's no picture of him with a tin-foil hat, and I'm not a very good photoshopper.
Yes, the movie is so popular and much more widely seen than Newsies. That's why when Kris Allen sang "Falling Slowly" on American Idol, the judges were questioning why he chose a song that not many people knew from a movie not that well known (the theme that week was movie music). Sure, they're not the brightest people, but as I said, most of the people who are familiar with the song don't even realize it's from a movie. It's an Irish indie film made on a dime and starring The Swell Season. Compare that with a Disney movie musical starring a young Christian Bale, Robert Duvall, Ann-Margaret, and Bill Pullman with music by an 8-time Oscar winner directed by the man who made High School Musical. Not all movies that win Academy Awards are well known. I'm sure most of the nation is unfamiliar with The Hurt Locker, and that was an historic Oscar winner. But anyway, feel free to say what you want if it makes you happy. I'm satisfied with my opinion and argument.
