I predict DOUBT will win for Best New Play and VIRGINIA WOOLF will take home the Revival Tony.

Sadly, I doubt much will happen for 'night, Mother, which is a damned shame because it was excellent. I don't know what Brantley was thinking but I hope the Tony committee remembers it and gives both of the brilliant ladies involved the nominations they deserve.

What about Streetcar?

And I wouldn't hand that Tony to Turner or Jones just yet until we see what Natasha Richardson does with Blanche in Streetcar.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Phylicia Rashad yet! This sure is a big year for leading ladies in plays, it'll be interesting to see who walks away with the award.

From what I hear leaking from the rehearsal room, Streetcar is not going so well, and Richardson is not up to much. I will see what I think when I see the show on Sunday afternoon, but for now, I would say that it will have to go some to beat the reviews and word of mouth that Woolf is getting.

I have said it on other threads, and I will say it again here. Doubt is going to take the Tony and the Pulitzer. Pillowman is its strongest competition but Doubt is a much tighter and better constructed play, even though I enjoyed Pillowman more. What Shanley does with Adriane Lenox's character is amazingly accomplished, for example.

I think the best actor and actress categories are at the moment two horse races between Crudup and Irwin and Turner and Jones. We'll see how it all shakes out soon enough.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I don't know any of the rules and such

No, has to be an ORIGINAL play written for the AMERICAN STAGE. And, I was at a Streetcar rehearsal the other day, and you are completely mistaken...

I hope I am seriously mistaken. I have been looking forward to this revival of Streetcar for ages and it's part of the reason my month in NYC was timed the way it was. So I hope it blows all the competition out the water and hoovers up all the awards it possibly can.

I wasn't trying to be mean, I just wanted to make sure people saw it, and didn't skip over it... re: Tony predictions for plays

Don't forget GLENGARRY for Best Revival.

Judging from what I've heard, Frances Sternhagen's Clairee is really something. Maybe a nod...

I cannot wait to see what Richardson brings to Blanche. If that performance is what I am expecting (what I am hoping) it to be, then it should be exceptional.

Although I was ever so slightly disappointed with the Glass Menagerie revival, I ADORED Sarah Paulson as Laura. I hope she at least gets a nod at the Tonys.

"This is what I trained to do, and this is what I love about theater. What I love about being an actress is being able to really look into myself and understand another human being. And out my own self, to shape and form and fashion a real human being--and to present that in such a way that people see something of themselves or their own understanding in that human being." --Phylicia Rashad

Sarah will probably be nominated. I think Jessica will be nominated, too, based on name value.
