Yeah. I'm chucking Hall's drops at my television.
She's still great, though.

Posted: 6/6/04 at 8:46pmEXCUSE ME???
re: Tonya#7
Posted: 6/6/04 at 8:46pmHer voice was flawless when I saw COC, she's not up to par. She brings the house down with that song.
re: Tonya#8
Posted: 6/6/04 at 8:46pmYes, Matt. I have a differing opinion. It was powerful, but her voice was hoarse and she went off-key several times, as far as I heard.
re: Tonya#9
Posted: 6/6/04 at 8:46pmMay not be up to par, but still amazing

She is much better in person. The show is brilliant!

Posted: 6/6/04 at 8:50pmMy mother (who never heard of her/the show)was not impressed. Everyone raves about her so i know she is good, and it was powerful, but not umm.. pretty? - for lack of a better word at the moment
re: Tonya#12
Posted: 6/6/04 at 8:53pmHer performance weasn't great tonight. And who cares if she's ugly? We're not talking about Miss America

She is very pretty. It is the character she plays.
And she is incredible! They use a fake wig and the costume is dowdy but Tonya is not.

Posted: 6/6/04 at 9:00pmShe seemed very emotional tonight. It looked like she walked off stage crying...
re: Tonya#16
Posted: 6/6/04 at 9:03pmTonya's ugly?????? I didn't realize John Simon posted here. Well, it's all in the eye of the beholder, but sorry I think she's very attractive and she's very convincingly played glamorous sexy vamps several times in her career -- including her Tony winning performance in Jelly's Last Jam -- so yours is obviously a minority opinion. Remember she's playing a maid not Glinda the good witch, so her hair, makeup and costume purposely make her look dowdy and less attractive than she is in real life.
re: Tonya#17
Posted: 6/6/04 at 9:04pmI saw the show last week and she sounded hoarse then too. I assumed it was a character choice.

Posted: 6/6/04 at 9:07pmoh gosh im sorry i didnt realize how my posted sounded. I just meant that it didnt SOUND too pretty. I can see the powerful great voice she has, but it didnt come through tonight because she cracked and went off a bit. again sry!

I haven't seen the show, but I can see how this could be a powerful number. But it was a poor performance of it.
In terms of sheer entertainment, the opening number, "Swing" from Wonderful Town, and the Anevue Q crowd were the best, in my opinion.
re: Tonya#20
Posted: 6/6/04 at 9:57pmI think she did a wonderful job. A litte bit hoarse, but still incredibly moving, and I definitely want to see this show now---quick. I am thrilled for her; she was terrific.
