Just went on the Public's website for HAMILTON. $120 a ticket and $85 a ticket for members. That seems like a lot for Off-Broadway-especially at the Public.
Really was just checking their performance schedule- Today's Tix boasts about not feeling bad if you lost their lottery as you can enter again for all performances. I just checked Today's Tix and they don't have the lottery for tomorrow-Tuesday-yet there seems to be a performance tomorrow at 8. Don't get it.

There isn't enough supply to meet the demand. They could be charging more. Third party ticket sellers certainly are.
TodayTix's servers are being updated until 3 am, at which time the lotto will likely be available.

Ticket prices reflect demand, which is basic economics and it applies to everything. Hamilton has been receiving a lot of positive press lately, and is probably considered the most popular Off-Broadway show this season (especially since it's getting a transfer to Broadway).
People are paying a grand for one ticket to Hamilton on Stub Hub. It's the hottest show right now, and since you cant get anymore tickets on the Public's website, Id say it wasn't too expensive at all.

Which begs the question, "Has the Public outlived its mission?" Maybe they should rename it "The Private" or "The For Rich Only"
The tickets are $122...if there were any to purchase. Since the entire run is sold out then I don't think it's "too much for tickets."
Also there are certain performances where there is no lottery and those are listed on the Public's site. Furthermore, the Public isn't obligated to offer a lottery as a way to give you a chance to see the show if you're not willing to pay full price. They even offered the ENTIRE first preview free to those who won the in-person and TodayTix lottery.
Believe it or not, people produce theatre as a means to make money. The entitlement of people is mind boggling.
There's a special event tonight, thus no lottery. Follow the Public's Twitter feed for info.
I bought tickets early on, and my member seat was $50. It is a very expensive production, and looks it. It's worth the money, and more.
agree that tickets for this are not too much. However it is not correct to say people are paying the prices you see on stubhub. Those are asks from brokers: we don't know if any were sold in that range but I do hope the Public takes the groundbreaking step of enforcing the no resale condition against obvious brokers for those tickets. That would be meaningful.

My friends paid $900 last week for tickets on Stub Hub. Yep, people are buying them. Very, very correct.

That is crazy!!! Well, if they can get away with it, good for them. I don't think I've ever paid more than $110 for a ticket. It's not necessarily that I don't think tickets are worth more than $110, but I would feel horrible about spending so much, and would probably need to cut down on food and other expenses to justify paying that much for a ticket...
Edited because now that I think about it, the most money I have spent on one single ticket is actually $100 with fees... But I did buy four tickets at that price for that show!

sutton, notice that I did not say there were not tickets being bought at that price; simply that being offered does not always mean that the price was accepted. If you know 2 idiots who paid that, then we know 2 people did, not that "people are buying them" generally. I suspect that now that the transfer has been announced, we will see those prices come down and, as I said, I hope the Public nails some of the brokers.
Buying less food? OK
Getting into crazy territory. Will get the cast album and either use my imagination or will get a naughty version. Somehow I will survive if I do not see it. Amazing how people still wonder why ticket prices are high.
We will see less and less as years go by and that is fine. Not buying into the endless madness . Going in and buying a few set of tickets is a thing of the past. Oh well, life goes on.
"If you know 2 idiots who paid that, then we know 2 people did, not that "people are buying them" generally."
Um, two people who want to see a show, and don't mind paying that (since they have the disposable income) aren't idiots. Why the hell would you possibly care? Christ. People can pay whatever they want, you don't get to judge that.
"you don't get to judge that."
Of course I do, and I did.

Just wait for the Broadway version - it'll likely be cut down to 2 hours 30 minutes (instead of close to 3 hours as it is now), it will likely start at a more reasonable 7pm a couple of nights, and rush tickets will likely be in the much more reasonable $35 price range. A win-win-win if you wait for Broadway.

I only paid $50 for my tickets to the show.
Broadway is extremely affordable if you know how to work the system. I see up to 3 shows a week,
Broadway for Broke People.

Can I ask how you worked the system and got a $50 ticket? Are you a subscriber of the Public? I know all about Rush tix and lotteries for B'way-I use them myself but this show only seem to have the usual Lottery and Waiting Lists.

"Broadway is extremely affordable"
There's a certain level of presumption there. Working people who are getting by don't really have the spare time to invest in learning the system or working it.
