Top 10 Favorite Sopranos?

I never would've thought of Lea Salonga as a soprano!
I really only have a top five, because I'm not much of a sopranoholic. But I love Rebecca Caine to bits.
1. REBECCA CAINE. All the way.
2. Julie Andrews.
3. Kelli O'Hara
4. Judy Kuhn
5. Kristin Chenoweth (I know, I know, cliched.)

I think Lea is a mezzo-soprano, maybe I made a mistake.
Also I forgot about Julie Andrews, Patti Cohenour, Eden Espinosa(mezzo), Melissa Errico and Idina Menzel(mezzo)

How could I forget Marin Mazzie? I guess I always mistakenly think of her as an alto because "Back To Before" is so low. But she was wonderful in Camelot! Definitely one of my favorite female singers!

Audra McDonald, Rebecca Caine, and Kristen Chenoweth (I dare say she is a better soprano than belter). How the hell did Sarah get the role of Christine full time over Rebecca? That will always be a mystery to me.

You mean Sarah Brightman for whom the role was pretty much written for and was doing the composer?

blaxx is right, but wasn't Rabecca her alternate? She was miles better than Sarah... it really SHOULD have been hers, IMO.

One more significant name: Laura Michelle Kelly, the BEST Mary Poppins and one of the best Eliza Doolittles I have ever seen on stage and, my favorite lyric musical theater soprano today.

kchenofan's computer is broken right now. This is her fridge. Now, you can leave a message, but say it slowly, so I can write it on a post-it note and stick it to myself.

BwayBuff2 and kchenofan,
While Birdwell DOES know what she's doing, I can pretty much guarantee that Kristin and Kelli knew how to sing before they went to OCU.

"blaxx is right, but wasn't Rabecca her alternate? She was miles better than Sarah... it really SHOULD have been hers, IMO"
blaxx is never right, and even if he were, he/she/it never uses the right approach or a respectful one at least.
You are wrong as well, Patti Cohenour was Sarah's alternate. And she is a wonderful performer and was thrilled to be part of the success of Phantom. Actually it one of the highlights of her professional career. Maybe if Mrs. Brightman hadn't been ALW's wife she wouldn't have gotten the part of Christine. Could she sing the role? Definetly yes. Is she the best actress in the world? Not at all. Do we need Meryl Streep to play the role of Christine Daae? No. But she got it! Period. Let it go!
