"Juliette Capulet, I have the movie of Les Demoiselles de Rochefort and I love it. I don't speak French though, and I still love it."
I want to see it the movie version. The musical is supposed to be somewhat different, but still...

Some nice and interesting choices here, but most of the lists are overwhelmingly contemporary. No wonder NM was ranting.
Eh...I apologize for my overwhelmingly contemporary list. :) I recently bought out the musical CD's section of Tower Records but I haven't had a chance to listen to many of them yet.

No need for apologies, NYCbabe- you're actually one of my favorite posters here. I was observing more than accusing. Sorry if my tone sounded pejorative.:)
Awwwww that makes me feel warm and fuzzy. :) Don't worry, I didn't take your post offensively at all.
Assassins - The NEW Recording (comes out in July)
Bat Boy
The Last Five Years
Rent
Parade
Urinetown

~West Side Story- YES... But, the Original Broadway Cast Recording is very underwhelming. I would buy a more recent recording by a symphony of some kind. The larger orchestrations are phenomenal!

There are also some really good Broadway complilation CDs out there. Check out Ultimate Broadway 1 and 2 or Broadway Today for some samplings of other great cast recordings.

Sorry about the contemporary recordings! But I guess we're all contemporary folk! After all we're online and seeing shows now!
If I asked my Father his favourite, none of the 'modern rubbish' would appear in his list!!!! But his list would no doubt be contemporary to the decades he regularly visited the theatre. So he'd enjoy 'The Flower Drum Song' - originally at the Palace Theatre, London. Plus Oklahoma! Oh and any of the film musicals featuring Doris Day!
Oh yeah! I forgot Rent. That should be somewhere in there, too. Too many to choose from.
