I, um, thought he was dead. Oops.

If it makes you feel any better, BDrisch, so did I. We can be terrible people together.

Well Carol Channing is like 106, and she'd still do Dolly in a heartbeat
[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

That's a little strange, but at least it's a big name. I mean, who else could they have gotten. And hey, as of '05, Cathy Rigby was still playing Peter Pan...she's certainly not young.
You look absolutely terrific, honestly.

I saw his Tevye turn on B'way a long time ago at the Gershwin. It was one of the most boring performances I ever sat through. Thank God for Marcia Lewis.

I saw Topol in a tour of the show about 10 years ago and he was embarrassingly bad. I would not waste time or $$ on seeing him again.

He toured this show (with local supporting cast) across Australia and New Zealand last year and yes he is old and the performance is slow but he does bring in the crowds. He also owns most of the sets and costumes which he hires back to the producers!

Bikel was older than that the last time I saw him do it.
I'll stick to Topol in the movie, which I love.

My dad was laughing when he found out that A Topol was doing Fiddler on tour and B that he is still alive.
I know that they had said awhle ago that they were going to tour the revival that played at the Minskoff but that they were going to wait awhile for whatever reason. Is this tour based on the latest revival?

Bikel was just as bad as Topol. I saw Bikel in a tour on my birthday several years ago. After those two it's a wonder I still like the show.

Topol: If I sing it SLOWER.....
But he is superb in the film.

And almost 40 years later, Ted Neely is still playing JC in "Jesus Christ Superstar" at age 64.
I suspect 30 years from now Pascal & Rapp will be playing the same roles in "Rent" that they've been playing for more than a decade

So Ted Neely's been playing Jesus longer than Jesus was actually alive.

From The Providence Journal:
Other shows on the PPAC roster include Fiddler on the Roof with Chaim Topol as Tevye, A Chorus Line and Spring Awakening, the Tony Award-winning rock musical about teenage self-discovery. The Color Purple, The Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and a musical version of the popular vintage television show Happy Days round out the 2008-2009 season.
The actual article from the paper

I hear another recording...hehehe
"In the U.S.A.
You can have your say,
You can set you goals
And seize the day,
You've been given the freedom
To work your way
To the head of the line-
To the head of the line!"

Topol is one of the great marketing stories of the industry. Proposing to use an obscure actor named Chaim Topol as Tevye raised a great many eyebrows until someone said "Just call him 'Topol' - lose the first name. From now on he's just Topol" and of course it worked. People thought he was some famous foreign star - like Piaf or Cantinflas, who only used one name. And these same people (millions of them) were ashamed to admit they'd never heard of him. "Topol? Oh yeah, I hear he's fantastic...."
Works every time.
