When you're good to Mama, Mama gets you a new car...?
I looked on Oprah's website, and someone who was there posted on her message board that
****SPOILER****

I would pay to see Oprah as Mama. Not so much for Brinkley as Roxie...

What's up with all these older women playing Roxie? Yes, I understand Gwen Verdon did it originally. But there has to be some plausibility that people would believe that Roxie is pregnant.
I have it from a reliable source Stritch in talks to take over Roxy after Brinkley leaves! I can't wait!

Wait, Brinkley is doing it? Really? How old is she? I'm sure she'll be brilliant... but she's a bit old....
Brinkley is 57. She looks great.
Chita Rivera played the role in her late 60s.
Thank God Oprah wasn't announced as Mama Morton. Apologies to Oprah lovers, but that woman does not need anymore exposure. It's bad enough we're stuck with her for all eternity.
Gothampc, I think that more important than the believe that Roxie is past her prime as an entertainer than to believe she is pregnant.
I think Zellweger was too young to do the film, which is why many of the Roxies on Broadway now seem especially "old."
Oh rats! I was holding out for Carol Channing's Broadway return.

You got to admit that bringing in middle-aged actresses and celebrities to play Roxie have a large part in Chicago's success. Women/mothers are usually the ones who make the theatre-going decisions, so starring older women as Roxie they have grown up with and relate to will give this show a lot more attention than it usually would.
My god she was perky, that clip should have come with a warning!
