My dad told me that while he was in high school (circa 1970), his school did Cabaret and caused an uproar in the community. The students and the teachers at the school stood by their decision to do it, and in the end, they did do the show in its entirety and it turned out to be very good.
My high school did Joseph, Wizard of Oz and Godspell when I was attending. I wish they'd ventured out of the G-rated shows (we were in high school, not preschool), but the drama teacher sucked, so I blame her.
I remember when my friend's high school did Tommy. Can you imagine? I still think it's weird when I hear about high schools doing Hair.
My middle school did Camelot... I'm sorry but i think adultery and incest is a bit to adult themed for 6th graders to be doing

I agree it's wrong for these kids to be doing Chicago. What's next? Avenue Q??? Where are the parents on this one? I mean, what adult would allow their child to be involved in such filth?
You know, it's this kind of influence that will have these kids having sex right there on school grounds, doing drugs and ruining their lives before they've even begun. All I know is someone is going to end up pregnant or worse due to this foolishness.
I've had this disscussion many a time. What I think it comes down to is the maturity of the cast and really understanding every aspect of the show. Which should be done for any show you're in. I've seen this show done by a few high schools and some have done the production justice and others not so much. Depends on the cast really.

I agree IF there were a hs with enough drama students that have the maturity if a 30 year old then fine...but what about the audience they should be very mature for there age as well. I donot think high schools should be performing shows like this. Everything about it is an adult theme!
Besides im all about keeping kids innocent, i think we are all growing up much tooo fast these days! You will have a lifetime to do Chicago, stick with the others for now!

When I think back to my own HS career (Which ended 25 years ago), it seems like it took place on another planet. I can remember having to make edits in "Diary of Anne Frank" because we couldn't show Anne angry at her mother or some such piece of crap. I recall Mame not being able to say "Sons of Bitches" or smoke a cigarette. I think there were even discussions that we couldn't use the word "ass" in Oliver.
And now we have high schools doing Chicago and Hair and probably Nine...well, as they say in Oklahoma (Well, not at MY high school) "They gone about as fur as they can go!"
