Posted: 3/3/05 at 4:44pmDaniel, who will always be Dexter to me, did leave a bit to be desired. Karen was simply wonderful, and it SHOULD have made her a star. Well, "The Opposite of Sex" will. Debra was also terrific, and "Everybody's Girl" still makes me howl. What can I say? I'm a whore for double-entendres.

You hated "Everybody's Girl"? I won't hear it!
We played "Somebody Older" at my wedding.

Posted: 3/3/05 at 4:50pm"The Rink" is great, but we're focusing on shows from the past 10 years. If you want, I'll start a thread for underrated 80s musicals.

Posted: 3/3/05 at 4:54pmI didn't see THE RINK, but had the OBCR and loved it. But come on - who wouldn't with Liza and Chita singing it?
re: Underrated Musicals Question#32
Posted: 3/3/05 at 4:55pmScrew the 10 year gap! I loved "The Act".
re: Underrated Musicals Question#33
Posted: 3/3/05 at 4:56pmtimes squares regular; "kiss of the spider woman" was a hit and won the tony for best musical, plus 6 more tonys....was it underrated or not a hit u think? im just wondering...i wish it was on ,instead of "phantom" or one of those shows that have been on since forever, that arent nearly as good as "kiss".

Posted: 3/3/05 at 5:00pmBeav, I'm lifting the 10 year gap. It's been raised to 30 years.

re: Underrated Musicals Question#39
Posted: 3/25/05 at 5:54pmShe Loves Me (though it won the Tony for Revival) it is underrated. No community theatres do it, when it first opened it was disliked and I think the music is very catchy and I also agree with Ragtime and Sideshow.

Okay, just want to add my vote for Side Show...also Jane Eyre.
Does anyone know if there was ever a broadway production of Meet Me in St. Louis? I believe there was not too awful long ago, but I'm not 100% sure. If so, how well did it do?

Thankgod Justice mentioned Parade.
This show should have lasted so much longer, and should have had the Tony for Best Musical over Fosse.
Parade, Ragtime, The Last Five Years (outside the obsessive teenage Music Theatre cliques) and Seussical.

I'm not sure Ragtime or Titanic would qualify as "underrated". Ragtime won a few Tonys and if it was a financial failure, it received much praise. Titanic did extremely well at the Tonys and was also pretty highly praised at the time, especially considering the negative preopening buzz.
My pics:
Jane Eyre
Bombay Dreams
Parade (though it did walk away with two Tonys)
Once on This Island (a few Tony noms, but the show got lost in season of bigger spectacle hits)
Aspects of Love
Blood Brothers (had a healthy run, but has since been almost entirely forgotten)
