Using Alternate And Understudy Eva - Evita International Tour

I went to see the Evita International Tour 2018. I spent 200 USD buying ticket and was looking forward to it. Somehow Emma Kingston did not perform in the show. I don’t know if it’s because there were not too many people at the theatre to see the show. Anyway, the singer sang in that show(as Evita) sang badly, and did not take the show seriously. I was disappointed since I was expecting to hear Emma sing, and was mad that Emma did not go on stage and did not notice the audiences.

I asked the people from Evita International Tour and Kham Tickets why it was not Emma Kingston performing in the show. They insisted it was Emma, but apparently it was not her singing on stage. The singing styles and looks of the two were so different.

Then I found out that it was the Understudy Eva.

My question is, do the people from Evita International Tour needed to use an (Alternate or) Understudy? They only performed four shows and two matinees. Or they used the Understudy Eva simply because the theatre was only about 1/3 to 1/2 full that day? (It was a matinee)And they kept Emma for the later show?

200 USD for ticket and did not see Emma Kingston...

(I did not know about Emma Kingston. But she sings pretty well in the trailer. I don't know since she was replaced with the Understudy Eva in the show.)

I too saw the alternate Eva and she is not good, at all.

Did you see it in Taiwan?

From what I know, the U/S Eva is scheduled to perform once or twice a week.

You do realize that Eva is quite possibly the hardest role to sing in musical theatre history? Patti LuPone herself missed many a show.

$200 sounds very steep for a show that was only 1/3 full. I paid that much to see Bette Midler in Hello, Dolly! Maybe wait for a discount code or to see if a certain performer is on before spending a lot of money on tickets.

It’s disappointing when you don’t see someone after looking forward to it, but it’s live theatre and this happens.

Money is not the problem. The problem is, however, the Kham Tickets Website did not say anything about the shows would not be performed by Emma Kingston. The Management Evita Tour did not make an announcement that they are replacing Emma with the Understudy Eva before the show started that day. And worse, when I questioned why it was not Emma Kingston singing on stage, people from Kham Tickets lied about it.

As I mentioned earlier in my post, Evita International Tour 2018 only performed 4 shows and 2 matinees. Emma had lots of time to rest. And, it was the Understudy Eva(not the Alternate Eva, google their meanings and differences if you don't know), so apparently they replaced Emma with the Understudy Eva because the theatre was only about 1/3 to 1/2 full. Emma was not ill nor had situations(not to mention that she's a professional and should avoid these kind of things), since she sang in the show later the same day.

Of course, you can argue that, this is standard practice in shows of this nature around the world. But the fact is, people from Evita International Tour 2018 did not respect the fans. They treated the audiences as fools. Thinking that no one would notice it was not Emma Kingston, but the Understudy Eva.

You too know that the Evita may be the toughest role to sing, so you should also know that replacing Eva with a Understudy is different from replacing any other lead performers(in this or other musicals). Especially, the Understudy Eva sings so lousy.

What would you feel if you spent 200 USD buying ticket and did not see Bette Midler in Hello Dolly?(Bette Midler, I remember she singing Wind Beneath My Wings.)

Why so upset? You're the Understudy Eva's ONS?(You edited your post TotallyEffed. LOL.)

(I complained on Evita The Musical Facebook, and they "removed" my posts... Really bad experience with the Evita International Tour 2018...)

No one on here has anything to do with this EVITA situation. Why are you coming here and attacking us? Contact your credit card company and put a dispute and demand a full refund.  We can’t change or alter what happened to you.  They can.

You willingly paid 200 USD for a ticket and you watched the show so no matter how much fuss you kick up you’re not entitled to any sort of refund. 

Emma may have called out at last minute. These things happen - its live theatre after all! No one owes you an explanation as to why the Alternate / Understudy was on as Emma’s health has nothing to do with you.  

I’m sincerely sorry you didn’t see the performer you were hoping to but Bette Midler and Emma Kingston are worlds apart. Emma isn’t a star so your complaint won’t be taken seriously.

No, she wasnt pulled because of the size of the house. Both actresses get paid regardless of how many people are there...if anything, it costs more to put on the understudy. (I dont know what rules/practices are used outside of the States.

Her absence could have been for any number of reasons....none of which are your business. Thats part of the live theater experience. Get over it.

200 USD for a "Good" show! Not some second rate singer who can't sing! I'm not even asking for an "Excellent" show! Geez, is this some kind of scam?

If that’s the case, why Management Evita International Tour and workers from Kham Tickets feared to let the audiences know that it was not Emma Kingston? It was disrespect, cheating, and lying.

That's the problem! Management Evita International Tour and most people here don't take the fans and their complaints seriously!
