hey guys! I've been a member here for a while, but haven't been around much at all in a long time. I stumbled back in here and saw the contest, and since I already had recorded a song from TLM on Youtube, I decided.. what the heck :) I always wanted to be Ariel since I was little, so this is a lot of fun. Best of luck to everyone in this.. some very talented people! ohh and I'm Elisha J on the contest, by the way. Keep singing and dreaming peeps!

No, it just sounds like she has a very high-quality mic and added some reverb. She (and almost everyone else) sounds great, though.

I assure you that I am not! As bway stated, I do have a decent mic, and a soundcard capable of producing reverb. If you check out my youtube profile, I have done songs with the camera's internal mic and no effects (like "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again") as well as response videos where I turned off the soundcard effects and sang without the music to a couple of my videos ("Home" from Beauty and the Beast and "Think of Me" from POTO) because people were accusing me of lipsynching. I'm just another singer in persuit of what she loves.. not a con artist.

besides the fact that I never called you a "con-artist" I think that maybe you should record your songs without all the technical stuff, makes it sound more real.

I choose to try and get as proffessional of a sound as I can. You'll rarely hear any artists singing live without just a touch of verb and a decent mic.. I sound just the same without it except it's just less of a "finished product" sound. All reverb does (when used properly and not in excess) is to warm the vocals and help them "sit" into the music better so they don't stick out so much.. A good mic doesn't make you sound better, but makes you sound like YOU by picking up all the colors and nuances of your voice.. internal camera mics can take away from your voice because they don't pick up the full spectrum of sound frequencies.

And as i've said, I have done songs on there without the mic and reverb.. I have no problem with that.. I just like the sound of a more polished and finished product for the majority of what I sing..

And you did not use the 'exact' words "con artist" but accusing someone of lipsynching pretty much feels like being called one..

I'm not upset by any means.. I just wanted to stand up for myself and clear that up. It just is frustrating as a professional to be called something you are not.. especially when it's something that means so much to me.. as music does.

I am really impressed with some of these. But boy I never thought I'd get sick of Part of Your World!
The little girls are sweet! Some of the voices are nice but untrained. Stephanie! Whoa! You go girl! You got my vote!

"Part of Your World" does seem to be the song of choice lol.. Hopefully people won't get too sick of hearing it when the voting starts! I need to go listen to everyone.. I haven't heard everybody yet, but from what i've already listened to, there are some great entries in this thing.. lotta talent out there!

Stephanie, you are AMAZING. I have listened to most of them (through Courtney Z going from the bottom up and you are one of 6 people I would consider voting for! You have a beautiful voice and if you win you truly deserve it!

ETA- If I let it buffer so it doesn't skip, it will not play for me once it is done. i hit play and nothing happens. Any ideas?

Omg, That is so sweet. Thank you so much.

I'm a musical theatre major, and my love of singing and broadway has all stemed from The Little Mermaid and Jodi Benson (I cried like a baby both times I met her, which made me look like a freak..haha).

I want this experience sooo much! I graduate soon so they'll be no fun excursions for me-just waiting tables!! lol.

Okay Jason! Wow! Ursula should be a baritone! You could step into her shoes...I mean tenticals! Great job! Fabulous voice!

On a differnet note, does it seem to you guys that the rules aren't being followed? This is what is posted:
ENTERING IS EASY AS 1-2-3!
STEP 1:
Take a cue from Disney's heroine, Ariel and "give us your voice." Upload a video of yourself singing any song from THE LITTLE MERMAID onto YouTube.com.

I take this to mean 1.It must be a song from TLM, people have been posting here about using a non-TLM song. 2. You must SING it not lipsync like the one guy. 3. Video yourself singing, not pictures or anything else just singing.

I just wondered how you guys felt.
But on the flip side I am very impressed with the voices! And how about the little tiny one that says "want thinggybobs?" How cute!!

Can't wait to VOTE!

I took it to mean the same thing as you Romancegirl.. I haven't had a chance to go through all of the vids yet, to see what kinds of things people might be posting that would go against this thinking.. I assume that they would want a live clip of you singing the song as if you were in concert/on stage performing it. If you just put pictures up than I suppose that could mean you are just playing a recording of yourself that you were able to make perfect in a studio with punching in and multiple takes rather than one shot live singing. I would think since this is a video contest, they want to SEE you perform it..

But if there is no stipulation in the rules for that, then I suppose there is nothing against that and it will be allowed regardless of what personal preferences different people may have.. maybe that will influence the voting in some way in the long run.. I don't know

That's why I wish they would always have VERY clear and strict rules in contests like this.. In all honesty, there are going to be people who don't like that I used a nice mic and some reverb and who think we should just be singing to the camera with no frills.. Everyone is going to have their preferences as to what "should" be the method of entering something like this.

That's why another contest I entered on Youtube was very clear that they didn't want us to use any external mics or effects, and that we have to actually be on cam singing live. That way there are no questions or complications.. The more specific the rules, the less likely people are to have problems or discrepencies. JMO

People like to make things MORE complicated than they need.

Any entries that are judged invalid will be removed before voting begins.

And admittingly, the rules weren't extremely specific about songs from the movie or the musical - I do know that the songs that some of you might think are not from Little Mermaid, are in fact, from the Animated TV Show. So technically, since we didn't specify, are valid.
