"I don't know how anyone can tell from watching the shows so far who is or is not capable of singing eight shows a week. I, personally, will wait to see the coming shows before deciding who's 'best' or who I'd vote for, why would I decide before the final competition has begun?"

If you go to NBC.com you can watch all of them sing "Hopelessly Devoted". It's a pretty good way to judge them all side-by-side. If you are trained as a singer, you will recognize the weakness in some of their voices. Kathleen sounds great, and ACTS the words of the song. That is why I'm voting for her.

You know when one of the vocal coaches on the show starts expressing concern for some of the girls. There is an authentic fear that several of the top 6 Sandys will not be able to sing the show. Laura and Ashley were brought up, by name. They are prepared with seasoned understudies, and thinking of double-casting for some of the girls. This concern was not expressed about Kathleen.

Bottom line with Kathleen is she just has the "IT" factor! And you have to love someone who can act while everyone else is worried if they'll hit all their notes.

This concern was not expressed about Kathleen.
Just because it wasn't show onscreen doesn't mean it was never expressed.

I don't see how people can even remember the names, let alone the extent of their vocal abilities from the minute or two or performing we've seen of them so far (people actually knowing the contestants aside). Some of the people that made it to the top 12 were barely shown at all while people that were dropped in the first cuts in the last episode were given entire segments devoted to them. It's a horribly-edited show in that regard. There's a difference between "keeping them guessing" and not being able to tell the finalist contestants apart.

areyoukidding, you need to consider the issue of editing when discussing this show. We haven't seen everything that's been expressed, discussed, or has happened during the filming. There have been many reports of how the editing has totally misrepresented what actually happened. So if you choose to draw snippets of information to suit your opinion about who is the 'best', go to it, but don't in any way think that what you're seeing is an absolute representation of what is happening with those twelve finalists.

I think the editing is very much following the precedent set by AMERICAN IDOL, including the deliberately deceptive method of "showcasing" performers who don't make it to the finals. I frankly think thats a good thiing - obviously the top twelve have been selected before even the first episode airs. Following the stories of just those who make it to the end would be pretty unsuspenseful. And if AI is any indicator - I don't think showcasing certain people (like say Austin on YTWTIW) necessarily gives the performer an unfair advantage: if anything it seems that America's root for the underdog mentality makes being a "front runner" a disadvantage.

One thing is definitely sure. The producers of these reality shows definitely have their favorites = and though they don't rig the voting, they certainly can edit and position certain performers in the lineup to secure maximum popularity.

I'm voting for Laura! I've worked with her several times. She is a true professional, and one of the kindest and most sincere people I've come across in this industry (which can be VERY fake!)... she is a doll, and as true to a real-life Sandy as it gets!

Is it just me or did anyone else think that Julianna sounded horrendous tonight? I finally got to watch the show and I heard so much buzz about Julianna but when I saw her performance, I thought she was awful. I really hope she gets cut. Some of the other performers were terrible too. I think there was only a handful that deserve to be there.

I disagree I was at the live performance and it was amazing to see how obvious that Kathleen's performance was the best live performance. She was made for Broadway! Stage Presence that took the stage and never gave back!

Fun Side Note, I was close enough to hear the judges speak and said (speaking of Kathleen) "that she had it all and was the best" Forget the scripted picks of the night...that was straight form the horses mouth!

Very Fun night all around!! Regardless of who you like.. you have to love what this does for Broadway! A real positive.

Kathleen didn't really do anything for me. Same for Juliana.

I think the "most" Sandy like contestant is Ashley A. But it's a shame she has a weak voice.

Producer3 - I didn't say she isn't talented - just that I can't see her as Sandy. She seems like a 35 year old gospel singer.

I agree MB. She seems like a lovely woman, and very talented, but she comes across as older and more mature than her years would suggest. Unless she was paired up with one of the older Dannys, I don't know that she would come across as very believable.

Kathleen is a good actress, I just hope she sticks around long enough to show everyone.

Kathleen is 23, and in person, she looks AND acts it. I think she looks completely differently on TV than she does in person. As is often the case.

Nevertheless, she's a good person and I wish her good luck.

That could be the case, Munk, which is why I don't know that this show really "works". Honestly, it's possible that she could easily pass for 17 on stage, but the camera is such a different instrument and on television she's coming across as closer to 30 than 17. Unfortunately, that's all the voters really have to go off of.

I would love it if Laura was chosen for Sandy but so far Ashley S. has the sparkle and vunerabilty needed for Sandy. Austin is actually my first choice for Danny and Chad is my second.

Am I the only one who feels no charisma from Ashley S?

She's blonde, yes, but singing wise and performance wise she came off as a dud.

I don't get how Laura came across as too sweet. Aren't they looking for Sandy? Sandy is either sexy or sweet within the show, not really a mix of both at the same time, so she was playing up that aspect of the character. Ashley's fine when she's talking, but on stage she appeared to give a throughly high school performance (and I don't mean to put down high school performers). Nothing about what she has done reads professional performer.

It might just be one bad night, true, but other than being blonde and cute I don't see what makes her right for Sandy.

I just got a little bit of a feeling watching Ashley S. that she might have a bit of a limited vocal range and that it could be a little scary when she's singing something thats a little more weighty. I guess we'll find out soon.
