I will always say that he and I had a moment after the FOLLIES stage door, he gave me the most piercing look with those gorgeous eyes. Of course that piercing look was probably just him, you know, making regular eye contact with a person but I will say we had a moment forever Anyway, so happy for him, I did think it was one of those where everybody knew but glad he feels fine talking about openly.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Um he has not actually been in the closet. This might have been news 10 years ago, just like Jodie Foster "just" coming out. That one was an even bigger joke.
Had the great good fortune to perform with him in "Knickerbocker Holiday". He couldn't have been friendlier, more collaborative, and more wonderful during rehearsals.
His 'September Song' was glorious and so moving.
"Two drifters off to see the world. There's such a lot of world to see. . ."
Here's what he should confirm: did he or did he not have a long-term relationship with Nathan Lane? The mental picture is awkward enough without all the stories I've heard over the years...
I feel like many celebrities who were famous and out of the closet pre-social media have to AGAIN come out to "confirm" it. Last week, if you googled "Is Victor Garber gay?" I bet you won't get a straight answer (no pun intended).
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

What I don't get is that he's actually talked about his long-time partner in previously published articles, but because he said it to The Advocate, it's suddenly "confirmed"?
Sorry, but this just goes to the whole "it has to be done a certain way" routine that Jodie Foster was talking about last night.

I also prefer his version of Oliver Warbucks more over Albert Finney's. Finney is one of my favorite actors, but I agree with Martin Charin that he played, "an English man who screamed". Garber's version of Warbucks was more true to the musical. Updated On: 1/14/13 at 10:17 PM
Also, off-topic, Charnin was also right about Carol Burnett's portrayal of Miss Hannigan. She is AMAZINGLY TALENTED, but the people who created the show never made Miss Hannigan, "a man-crazy drunk".
Having loved him in everything from Sleuth and Sweeney Todd to Assassins and Titanic and Night Music and Follies, his "September Song" felt like he was singing about a lifetime I had witnessed in the audience...and like he singing for me too.
