What newintown is saying is similar to what Zachary Quinto said after his "coming out", though, like Victor, many knew it anyway.
After nonchalantly referring to himself as a gay man in the middle of an interview question, he blogged about the importance of saying it at all,
when i found out that jamey rodemeyer killed himself – i felt deeply troubled. but when i found out that jamey rodemeyer had made an it gets better video only months before taking his own life – i felt indescribable despair. i also made an it gets better video last year – in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of jamey’s death – it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it – is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country. gay kids need to stop killing themselves because they are made to feel worthless by cruel and relentless bullying. parents need to teach their children principles of respect and acceptance. we are witnessing an enormous shift of collective consciousness throughout the world. we are at the precipice of great transformation within our culture and government. i believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society – and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer’s life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that i had done this sooner – i am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. now i can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world. that – i believe – is all that we can ask of ourselves and of each other.

Sue--you're either a troll or ignorant, but there are two basic and obvious things here you don't seem to realize:
(1) Being gay is not about who you have sex with. It's who you love.
(2) Victor did not "announce" anything. He answered a reporter's question.

Oh, someone pointed out your error - they must be a "bully," right?
This has nothing to do with whether you read the article or not; its your lack of awareness of gay/lesbian issues that's being addressed.
Not everyone who corrects you is a "bully" - think about it. Taking refuge in a Victim stance is really unattractive.

Well I gotta agree (maybe not in this instance) but a lot of these "coming outs" surround books and press junkets. One that I wish more people would talk about are the liars. Like when Lady Gaga first came out as "bisexual" only to seemingly never date a woman or have another song about one. It's cool to be a lesbian when you're selling records.

I could have told you he is gay when I was a kid barely becoming familiar with this art form. It has nothing at all to do with him being supposedly "obvious" or the overdone stereotype of being apparently effeminate because he is neither. I just knew. I jokingly call myself a big ol' queen, but I am as "straight acting" (hate that label because there is no such thing but for lack of better term) as they come, but I know other gay men can and have picked up who I am with a mere knowing glance. The gaydar thing is indeed a stereotype based far more on truth than fantasy.
Don't you love that? That you could be casually going about your day like whatever, then suddenly lock eyes with someone and you both agree, "I know," usually followed by an invitation to their lust chamber, or something. What do they take me for, some Adam4Adam slutwhore? *grin*
